Hey Guys, I cant seem to find any info or guides regarding the conditions of a conditional greencard. So once you get this you can travel right? how long does it take to get and how long does it take to get AP. And is it true that even when you have conditions removed than you cannot leave the US for more than 6 months? Is there exceptions for this, such as business?

Thanks guys!

It is conditional on the terms that it was received...in other words, if it is based on marriage it wil not be renewed unless you remain married, with some exceptions to that.

There are NO differences in privileges or rights. Yes you can travel and work

The conditional green card expires in 2 years, you will renew it and "remove conditions" and get a new 10 year green card after that.

I found this on the USCIS website. It looks like you have to get permission to leave for over a year: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=0c353a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=0c353a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

And reading the last paragraph anything over 6 months can affect your naturalization.

Hope this was of some help to you.

A permanent resident is required to reside in the United States. You can generally be gone for up to six months without a problem. After six months the CBP may question whether you've maintained residence in the US. If you're gone for a year or more without first obtaining a reentry permit then CBP will presume you've abandoned your US residence and you'll lose your green card. Even with a reentry permit, the maximum allowed absence is two years.

There are exceptions to the above.

Spending more time abroad than you spend in the US may look to CBP like you're actually living abroad and just visiting the US. This is true even if each visit abroad is less than six months. If they conclude you've abandoned your US residence then you'll lose your green card.

If you're gone longer than one year without a reentry permit, or longer than two years with a reentry permit, it might still be possible to reenter the US without losing your green card. You'd have to apply for a returning resident visa at a US consulate, and you'd have to convince the consulate that your extended stay abroad was unexpected and beyond your control.

Our son is outside the US for 10 months at a time as as student and has never had a problem coming home for the summer. If you will be outside the US for more than 1 year you need to apply for a re-entry permit before returning.

If you will be gone for more than 6 months but less than 1 year, bring with you evidence you intend to remain a resident. Our son carries with him his drivers lisence, most recent tax return, w-2s, draft registration, debit card and bank information, and student ID. He has never been asked for it but he has it if needed

This year he will be coming here mid-winter instead of us going there, so he will not be gone for more than 6 months, but he has returned 3 times after being gone for 10 months and had no problem

Thanks a lot guys, Hiker girl this is the paragraph you are referring to, im understanding in this paragraph its talking about requirements need up until you become naturalized. Im wondering if after obtaining citizenship, would these or similar rules still apply?

Additionally, absences from the United States of six months or more may disrupt the continuous residency required for naturalization. If your absence is one year or longer and you wish to preserve your continuous residency in the United States for naturalization purposes, you may file an Application to Preserve Residence for Naturalization Purposes on Form N-470. For more information, please see the “Continuous Residence and Physical Presence Requirements” under the Naturalization section of this website.

No AP needed for GC even conditional, 6 months max out of country, I would do less then 6. GC means your residency is in US not foreign country.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
