Was going through security when an area near my ####### kept hitting on the hand-held detector. Took off my belt, still going. I told them, "it's probably the button on my jeans". Next thing I know, a woman with gloves on has her hands down the front of my pants. My first thought "what the ####", the second, "thank god I shaved".

Watched a documentary on a young people's detention centre in the UK. Part of intake was a search which included taking a seat on a metal-detector chair. Something like this would find a ####### gun in a naked woman, I'm sure.... if she would have even been able to sit

I thought you said "an area near Virginia" at first

Thank you for introducing me to a new concept 'the ####### gun'. I was having my breakfast at the time but I need to lose a few pounds anyway. In Bradford where I come from, I am sure they could conceal a few thousand rounds of ammo there too

For any terrorists reading this - I would recommend a stainless steel weapon which would be less prone to rust

Am I the only one that plans ahead when going through checkpoints?

I will not wear anything that sets off the sensors and I have slip-on shoes, robust socks, and nothing in my pockets. Everything is in my carry-on which is open and if I have a computer or other electronics they're already outside and separated. Chemicals/liquids are in clear baggies and also easily accessed.

As you approach, have shoes/bag in one hand, ticket/ID in the other, smile nicely and wait until directed to do anything.

You'll have no problems if you do so.

I am off to Wisconsin next month and just taking a carry on plus laptop

I am fine with that for 4 days but the only problem is shaving gel which is not allowed

I could grow stubble but my mother in law would think I was mocking her, so I need another method

I don't want to waste time shopping for it

any ideas ? oh and toothpaste

I don't see shaving gel on the prohibited list (unless it's construed as flammable liquid/gel) but I do see razors aren't allowed in carry on bags anyway.

Whenever I travel domestic (or even international to a developed country) I'll simply buy one at the destination. Domestically, every Wal-Mart, grocery store, drug store, etc., sells the little travel size razors, gel, toothpaste, etc., so I'll just stop and pick up another one if needed.

I rarely shave so it's not a big deal for me but I guess if I needed to I'd just go the disposable route for a temporary solution. Another thing you could do is ship it to your destination a few days before your departure so it'll be there upon your arrival.

Actually I never have a problem with safety razors in hand luggage and I fly to Europe 3 times a year. I did ask at the airport and they said ok

Shaving gel/toothpaste is classed as liguids which cannot exceed 3 ounces

So simply take 3 oz!

got small toothpaste but not small shaving gel - never seen one of those

I suppose I could squirt some into a condom - that wouldn't look suspicious

Haven't bought a condom since March 1969 so that would be an experience

I tried to buy them at the co-op and they said they were out of stock and I should try Boots (a UK Pharmacy)

I said " I did, but it came out through the lace holes"

Oh believe me, I'm the same. I go dressed very simply with shoes I can take on and off quickly. But I fly in jeans because I'm a masochist. All it took was a button to almost get to second base.
