my fiancee is having her interview next week on wednesday and she's coming here on the 16th (friday). i have to buy her ticket 1 week before, that means friday. the one way ticket is about $3000 and the round trip ~$1500. now what i want to know is if it's illegal to buy a round trip and never use the flight back. will she have problems at POE? or are there any issues i should be aware of when buying the round trip?

thank you

If it was illegal to buy a round trip ticket and not use the return trip there would be a TON of people on a lot of trouble.

Its not illegal at all. Book the cheaper ticket make sure you call and cancel the return flight once she is in the USA.

Just better hope that she does pass the interview and she does get her passport with visa in like 3 days. So she can make the flight.

It is not illegal. I read that a congressman did that in order to protest against these airline practices. However, airlines have policies where they could put you on a "black list" and then not allow you to travel with them. I think this could happen if they find out that you are doing it on purpose and several times, anyway, one always can change our mind and decide not to flight for other reasons.

nope, I have had to do it a few times, as yes it was cheaper. and I did forget to chancel it,and I had no issues. but once she is here, try and cancel, hopefully you will be able to get some sort of something back. doubut it but its worth a try! :)

Your fiancee is having her interview on Wednesday, Sept. 14th, and you want her to fly out on Friday, Sept. 16th? What if there is a delay and she cannot be issue a visa until after Sept. 16th??? Recently, a US Embassy/Consulate could not issue visas because their special printer for visas was broken. The US recommends that a person does not make travel plans until a visa is in hand. If she can't get a visa before her flight, you may end up with a $1,500 non-refundable plane ticket.

Officers at the POE do not really care about what type of ticket you have. They are concerned that she has a valid passport, her visa, and the brown envelope. She may be asked to step aside and go to a room for questions as they process everything. Or just have a seat for a few minutes and then its over. As another poster said, I do hope that everything goes well as that is a tight time frame. My wife was so nervous she did not want me to make reservations until she was home with visa in hand and she did have an small issue so she was right. Then she wanted a little time to say goodbye to everyone.

Congrats Dee Dee and Sam.. Interview PASSED !

you always make me smile :D hope your words are golden <3

actually here in romania you leave the embassy with the visa in hand. have to wait for it 1 hour or so. never heard of any problems around, read all reviews. and i WILL pass my interview cause i have a strong faith in my relationship, all the proofs required, nothing to hide, and of course, confidence  still, the time to buy me a plane ticket is still in negotiations lol. the problem he was worried about was the one way or round trip. i can say he was really bugged about it :/
