Has anyone dared to travel without the AP? If so, what were your experiences?

I have read that even with the AP you are not guaranteed entry back into the US. Has anyone ever been denied entry with the AP?

ajmc,

Yes, K1 people pending adjustment of status have left the USA without advance parole. They applied for an immigrant visa, or more recently possibly a K3 visa, to re-enter.

Even with a visa one is not guaranteed entry into the USA. If someone does something that makes them inadmissable, they won't be allowed back in. The most common issue for people with advance parole is probably trying to use it when they have more than 180 days of out-of-status time.

There was just a recent thread on these forums about a K-1 who had left the US to travel back to Canada - and is still there, waiting for her K-3 interview. She was denied re-entry to the US and all of the paperwork filed at that time - AOS, AP, EAD - and allof the fees - was considered abandoned and the fees forfeit. They had to start all over again from square one with a different visa and she has to stay outside of the US - away from her home and her husband - during the whole process. Not worth the risk.

Dontcha worry, wasn't even thinking about risking travelling without the AP. I just wanted to know if people out there had done it and what happened to them, in case I would have to travel for a family emergency. Just thinking of worst-case scenarios here.

I thought what they meant by "AP does not guarantee entry" was that even if I had the AP, and especially if I got a border officer who was in a bad mood, that they'd still question me on why I wanted to get back in, and have them possibly refuse my entry!

Like those poor people who get denied entry trying to visit their fiance(e) while the visa is still being processed, even with enough evidence of ties to Canada...

That would just be terrible.

ajmc,

These are not comparable situations. The issues are entirely different.
