I'm sure you're right about that. On the whole, more people read than post on any given message board due to fear of negative blow-back from others. Someone told me yesterday that I should know that violations of the TOS are based on decorum. If that were true, more would post what they really believe instead of being cowed by the lack of decorum here.

It is always good to continually seek to learn and grow and form your own views. I'm proud of luckytxn. That's the stuff that makes posting worthwhile.

I think there are also a lot of people who don't feel especially comfortable posting in the threads, due to several factors. But I believe there are quite a few reading these threads who do not have a personal, emotional involvement with the conflict, yet are curious and would honestly like to get more understanding of "what in the hell is going on over there." The subject has not been objectively (much less comprehensively) covered in most mainstream American media, and more people are beginning to realize that they have been offered only limited information based on Israel's side of the story. It is always wise to seek out knowledge on one's own.

The "decorum" requirement applies equally to all.

But some posters are more equal.

Many thanks for the info. Awesome some will take the time to answer. And I have no problem if the books are a "hard read" I prefer books that takes time to read if they are "worth" it. I will hit my regular book stores and if I don't find I will order through amazon.

Yes I know to find a complete unbiased history is not possible. If an author is fascinated enough about a topic to write about it then a bias is created. Trying for years though to use the internet to find bits and pieces has made shown me no topic has appeared more likely to show bias. I am fully tired though to have found that the Zionist propaganda machine seems to have been so well in place that their view is considered actual history and fact.

Link-TV is a good alternate source for news from other than the US perspective. If you don't have satellite, it is available on the internet. I like the program Mosaic, as a good unfiltered source of news from the Middle East. Some of the other programming is too far out there for me to pay any attention too. But for a news source, Mosaic is good.

The history, cultures and laws of the Middle East and North Africa is my lifelong field of study. If you need help knowing where to look - and the net is not the place - just ask. Research is my stock in trade.

There are so many books on the conflict, it's hard for me to even pick a Top 10.

But I wanted to mention one amazing little gem that I came across called Khirbet Khizeh by S. Yizhar (the pen name of Yizhar Smilansky.) He was already an established Israeli writer when he served as a soldier in 1948, and he wrote this short novel ("The Ruins of Khizeh") several months after the end of the war. It tells the story of what he witnessed and participated in as his unit is sent to empty and destroy a Palestinian village. Well worth the read if you can find it.

This sounds like a reading I must find. I will write these down and look in my usual bookstores and if not found will try online. Thanks.good.gif

I do like reading a lot. I blame my Grandma but she just started me reading I kept it up on my own.star_smile.gif

Also if there may be a couple of books from the Palestinian or Arab side of the fighting that is worthwhile if you know of any would be nice. Apologize ahead of time for asking.

American education is lacking, When they teach history in school, they teach European history until about the 17th century, and suddenly, Europe and the rest of the world is forgotten, except for a few military campaigns by the US. Too bad. That was when European, and by extension, African and Asian history, just started getting interesting.

I spent quite a bit of time familiarizing myself with Vietnam's history in the mid 20th century, and for the last few years, I have been paying attention to the Middle East and North Africa.

Hang in there. There is a lot to be learned still from those civilizations, something the Europeans have forgotten post-Renaissance.

It was an exaggeration, but yes, if money is no object, there are much better places to grow things.

You must be thinking of the desert. But much of Palestine is not desert - it's a breadbasket. Jenin, Tulkarm, Nablus, Bethlehem and Hebron are well-known for their rich farmlands. Jaffa was famous for its orange groves long before the Zionists arrived. Palestine has been cultivated intensively and continuously for millennia - producing all sorts of fruits, vegetables and other food crops. And agriculture is still the main component of the Palestinian economy.
