I mainly use XOOM for all my transfers. I never had any problems with them and I've sent a lot of money throughout the years with them. I used them since 2005 and still using them till now and they never once gave me any problems. Also their customer service is really prompt and courteous and will reply your emails, calls, etc. right away.

She will need at least 2 IDs to pick up the money though if it's her first time.

All I know, is that I need you... I need you in my life as much as I need food or water or air to breathe - for the longest time, I've had this thirst deep inside... only to be known and understood and be loved for who I am. I have longed for someone, someone like you - to share my life with... all the ups and downs and everything in between. then out of no where - you walked into my life, quenching my thirst, satisfying my longing. and I know from every thing with in - that you are the one... you're the one I've been waiting for all this time. I want and I need you - more than I can usually find words to say... But today and always - please believe and know that you're the one for me and I'll hold you close and I'll never want to let you go...

It's reliable, it's simple, it's fast. But.... it's not as cheap as it seems!! :o

Consider a $2,000 send of money. All it costs is $6, right? Well, almost... now consider that the going rate is 42.2php to the dollar. So $2,000 will be 84,400php from the bank. But Xoom only gives you 41.3php, or 82,600, meaning they gain 1,800php or $42.65, plus $6, or $48.65.

OTOH, if your fiancee has an ATM card drawn on your bank, typical fees are 200php per 10,000 drawn, so about the same 1,800php, minus the $6. My bank refunds the first $15 worth of fees each month, so I save a little there. In the long run, I think an ATM card is the better way to go. It's too bad you can't just scan an emailed check into your bank in the PI like we can in the USA... now THAT would be the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to go!

Xoom is good, about the best second only to the direct transfer to bdo from Wells Fargo/Wachovia. The bank transfer gives the best, imho, xchange rate with lowest fee I've found. Xoom is second and if you're lucky, you can find a 1/2 off fees code from others on this site. Best of luck!

We have used Xoom on and off for two years now. I like it because I can deposit the money directly in to my wife's bank account and it's relatively cheap compared to Western Union.

I do not like the exchange rates Xoom gives you, if your sending a large some of money their low exchange rate makes a big difference and it's cheaper to use Western Union with a U.S. Dollar pay out it those situations.

Sometimes Xoom can take a little bit longer to actually get the money into her account, especially if you do the transfer near the weekend.

All in all I like Xoom and do not hesitate to recommend them.

I have my Xoom account hooked up to my checking account, not a credit card. Beware of using your CC with Xoom or any similar company, because you'll be charged a whopping "cash equivalence fee". CC's didn't used to do this but sometime in the 2000's they started doing this very objectionable fee. It was at least $25 for a $200 transfer, not counting the Xoom fee and the exchange rate loss.

Dave...As you point out, exchange rates make a big difference. Here's an idea to potentially maximize the exchange rate and, at the same time, minimize the transaction fees:

> Open an account at a credit union because some of them don't charge international ATM transaction fees. Send the person in the Philippines an ATM card on that account. That way, you can still take advantage of a better exchange rate than XOOM offers, and without the transaction fees.

Hi batchmate...I hope all is well with you in St. Louis. :)

We use XOOM every month with no problems so far. We always send the money bank account to bank account

Hi! This is my first time to send money thru money transfer coz they need it right away. I usually send thru cashier's check, which usually took a month to cash it with 4 dollars fee. Hehehe.

Yep! We're doing good, we just moved to our new house a month ago. We don't like living in apartment. Anyway, because of home buying and moving, and a road trip. I haven't file yet my removal of condition... hehehe. But everything is ready to file... just waiting for my ordered check since we decided to use personal check for the fee.

How's life treating you guys? :D

Thanks for info. I don't usually send money in the Philippines. Just when they really need some help but usually they inform me in advance or when I want to send money. But this time, they need it immediately so I have to use Xoom.

But I agree.... I wish its the same as here that I can just write a check and mail it. No fees except for the stamp.
