Experienced folks,

Does it look good to show face when a fiance goes in for his interview? Is it really expected for the petitioner to accompany the beneficiary to his interview at the consulate?

PLEASE HELP! His interview date is slated for Oct. 30. I am SO excited and wondering about going there.

It always looks good to be at the interview, but it's not required. It just helps verify to the consular officer that the relationship is still in good standing.

I'll be attending my fiancee's K1 visa interview as well because the last time I visited her in The Philippines IN PERSON was one and half years ago. I didn't go to see her for that long due to her going into her 4th year/graduating year and she was just extremely busy trying to make the requirements to graduate (she graduated on April 2011 and sent out our I-129F on April 25, 2011) and didn't want to burden her by being there and having to worry about me. The requirement is that you have met your fiancee in person at least once within a 2 year time frame (I have visited her 6x from 2005 to 2009 and stayed with her on average 2-3 months per trip, so I have plenty of pictures and verification that we did meet many times). So that's our reason for me attending her interview in person.

At some non-powderpuff consulates, it's a de facto requirement that the USC attend, or at least be on the premises. It can mean the difference between a visa, a 221g, or an outright refusal. Manila is NOT Pakistan. The OP needs to be on the consular premises at all costs, and at least to hand her U.S. passport to her beneficiary to show to the CO.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Can anybody tell me with absolute certainty if the petitioner is allowed to attend the Visa interview with the beneficiary at the embassy in Manila? I have plenty of documentation and evidence to substantiate my relationship with my Filipina fiancee so I assume my presence may not make much difference. However, I would like to accompany my fiance to her interview anyway per her request.

The information I was given when calling the appointment center was that the Petitioner probably wasn't allowed to enter the embassy or attend the interview with the beneficiary.

I have read in different sources that this actually isn't the case and that the petitioner CAN attend the interview. Can anybody clarify this for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers...

I have read several posts where the petitioner was allowed to attend. Sometimes they asked that the petitioner be quiet and other times the petitioner did most of the talking. You are definitely allowed into the embassy, it might be up to the interviewer as to if you can attend the interview. At least that's in Manila, I don't know about other countries.

Thanks for the info. It is greatly appreciated.

As I am an American citizen I was fairly certain that the info the call center gave me regarding my ability to enter the embassy, was incorrect. Thanks for verifying it.

Regarding the interview, they did imply that it was up to the discretion of the CO as to whether I could attend the interview...assuming I managed to get inside the embassy.

Now I have an idea of what to expect...thanks again!
