Hello everyone,

in advance I want to thank you for taking the time to read my questions and for helping me out in this complex situation, which is the Adjustment of status.

in part 1 of the i-485 form there is a question that says "expires on(mm/dd/yyyy)and its next to the questions that reads "current USCIS status" Its not clear to me what expires? My k-1 visa which expires in 6 months or my I-94?

my other question is can I apply for a drivers license without the green card? just with my social security number and marriage certificate? or do I have to wait until I received my GC?

Thanks again:)

When issued, a K-1 visa is valid for 6 months. This is how much time you have to enter the US. One you enter, the visa is cancelled, null and void, and replaced by the I-94. You do not need a green card to get a drivers license.

Most states require EAD or green card to get the drivers license.

Please see the example forms if you are having trouble filling things out.

The K-1 visa was used to enter the US. After that, it is nullified and the expiration date on it means nothing anymore. You need to put the expiration date of your I-94.

Getting a license varies by state. Check your state's DMV website. It should tell you what is required to get a license there.

1) I-94

2) Most states require a GC or EAD while some states only require a pending application (I-485) or a SSN
