Little bit of a suprise this morning. Log into my Cdn bank account and see an amount less than what I expected!!! Last Friday I started a trade with Custom house for a decent amount of $$ (cashed in RRSP's) SO when one does that, they sometimes contact your bank and verify the funds are in the account. Problem there is that sometimes your bank will charge YOU a fee for that service. In my case a $16.50 fee!! Not a big deal, but on completion of my transferer I was only leaving in $5.00, thus that $16.50 really screws me!! lol Hopefully my parents canget to the bank first thing this morning and deposit another $20 before Customhouse transfers the $$. Not sure what wil happen otherwise, I'm sure they will be fees to be paid!! On the bright side my bank is returning the $16.50 fee, but it takes 2-5 business days!! So keep that in mind if your transferring large amounts of $$$. I transferred over a few thousand $$ before with no problems. When in doubt, maybe best to conact customhouse. Scott

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey Scott,

Funny that I was just reading your post. Last night I finally managed to get my account with customhouse all set up and initiated my first transfer of funds into a US account. Custom house did mention to me that sometimes my CDN bank may take some sort of fee for the transaction.....I guess this was the case for you! Can you tell me which bank you are with? I'm with PC Financial and wondering if I'm going to get dinged with the transaction fee I thought I was going to be saving by going with customhouse.

By the way, I'm super impressed with customhouse customer service so far.... now lets see if my funds get to my US acct without a hitch!

Oh ya, and thanks again for suggesting this company, if all works well I'll be using them lots!

I have been using Custom house for nearly a yr. My Cdn bank is you guessed it --Presidents financial!! My other transactions ranged from hundreds to 1700 and there was never a fee. But in this case it was a fair amount so I guess Custom house made an inquiry to PC bank. And when this takes place, guess what, PC charges a $16.50 fee!! PC was nice enough to return the fee though, but warned they may not always do this. Took me by suprise. I only leave a few $$ in the Cdn account, so the $16.50 hurt, lol I knew I should have contacted Custom house prior, oh well!! My dealings with them have been great, always very professional. I'm sure it will all work out well for you.
