Hey all,

My wife's interview is coming up soon at the end of the month.

What should we need to be prepared?

We will be taking photos (wedding, reception, etc.), invitations, my tax transcripts, pay stubs, W-2s, copies of everything we've submitted so far among other things. I know some of these things may not be necessary but we are taking them anyway since you never know. What else is suggested that we bring with us? I have read they want a hard copy of the DS-230 even though they require a DS-260. We had originally submitted a DS-230 when they asked us to submit a DS-260. So can we just bring a copy of the one we submitted?

I have read here about signing up for DHL. What exactly is that for and is it required? I'm going to do it but what happens if I don't? Does it just delay the delivery of her passport?

Also, before we filed, my wife tried to enter the country for a two week visit but the immigration officer did not believe she was going to return to Canada (she had a big bag and was wearing her wedding ring) so she was turned around. He didn't "charge" her with anything but filled out some report she had to sign and told her to have me file for a visa. She hasn't made any attempts to come here since but I'm wondering if this could be a red flag during the interview. We did document this on the DS-230/260 so we're not trying to hide it or anything.

I've read some of the reviews for Montreal and most of the interviews seem to be pretty straight forward with not many questions as long as all the paperwork is in order. Hopefully that will be the case for us. I will be going to the interview with my wife. Will they let me in or will I have to wait outside. By outside I mean outside of the building. If they let me in the building will they let me in with her for the interview or will I have to wait in the waiting room? How does it work for spouses?

Thanks for all your help!

Take a copy of all the paperwork you have submitted. Make copies of everything that you are required to bring so they will give you back the originals.

Sign up for DHL asap. That is how the passport is sent back to you. Pick the location nearest your wife. She will have to pick it up at that DHL location or later she can arrange to have it delivered to her house, for a fee.

I was turned away at the border as well. We documented it on the forms. It was not an issue at all throughout the process. I was asked at the interview about it. I explained what happened and it was ok.

Both of you can go to the interview. Both of you can go to the window for the interview. Some people say they ask more questions if both parties are there than if it is just one. That is just hearsay to me, maybe someone else will elaborate on that. I went alone for my interview. Was asked very few questions and was out of there.

Good Luck :-)

You will need a DS 230 hard copy, don't sign it until you asked to at the interview. I also was turned back once at the US border, but it was not a problem. I did make note of it on the new

DS 230. You must sign up for DHL, it's how the passport is delivered. You can be at the interview, you will be sworn in, as will your wife. Don't carry anything that is prohibited. Cell phones,

cameras, big bags, only take what you need for the interview. They can hold smaller items but refuse anything big that doesn't fit in a small cubby hole. No food even...

Good luck!

Do you need to bring a DAS migratory report for the petitioner? Or is it only needed for the beneficiary? I saw a couple who got denied the visa on the first interview for a K3 visa because the petitioner did not have a DAS migratory report. I and my wife tried to check this on the Bogota Embassy website and cannot open the link even though we both have new versions of Adobe acrobat. Any advice? Also, what about the "package 4" from the Embassy with the appointment letter we need to bring with us? All we have received is the letter from the NVC telling us the appointment date, time, and on page 4 it has a list of all the documents we have submitted and which were accepted.

Maybe the DAS migratory report is only needed for the beneficiary in the case of a K3 visa and not the CR1?

I did not need a DAS migratory report, never have heard of it...

I just had my interview in Montreal last week. Alot of folks showed up with their USC spouse, but it is optional, not necessary. From what I could hear they did seem to ask them more questions then I was asked, being there alone.

Others have given good tips - only bring what you are asked to, do not bring anything electronic, do not bring a big bag.

I brought a copy of everything I had sent in already, along with copies of our wedding photos, and a completed (but not signed) DS230.

Outside in the morning: Line up to the right of the door, the security guard will make the entire line move that way if you are lined up to the left (as we were).

Go thru security - have your photo ID and letter of interview ready to grant you permission of entry.

Once thru security go down the stairwell as indicated, then find a chair as close to the barricaded elevator as possible (first on, first off)

Elevator up to 22nd floor - in line to see the cashier (everyone goes into this line).

Show her your interview letter and make payment (if necessary), you then get your ticket # (I got C3 yay!).

Pay attention to when your ticket # is called and to what window. (If you have your DS230 pre-completed this will save you alot of time for the processing while there.)

I can't speak for what others have gone thru / will go thru, but I was asked quite generic questions.

1. Verify the information is correct. (first window)

(2nd window now)

2. Swear to tell the truth.

3. How did my husband and I meet. Where did we meet. When did we meet. Did we have a wedding ceremony.

4. Did I ever get denied entry to the US - Yes. Explain why and how it happened.

5. She told me I was approved, with one final check that had to happen.

6. She then passed me a piece of paper with the DHL information on it (note you cannot ask the interview person any questions about the DHL procedure, just the greeter at the elevator).

I highly recommend that you show up first thing in the morning - the door opened at 7:30, but people started lining up at 6:30 (I was first with a couple from Michigan right behind me). When I left at 9:20am, the waiting room was full and the line up downstairs was out the door and spreading down the block.

I was not asked to show any photos of either of our wedding ceremonys, but I had them on hand "just in case". I wasn't asked to provide anything except my signature a couple of times and the DS 230.

I hope it goes well for you and your wife! :)
