Also when I called the VN Embassy they told me to follow the instruction on the website, so I assume this is what they meant by the look on the website http://www.vietnamembassy.us/consular_services/marry_a_vietnamese/ but what I'm confuse is how do I get those document from them? Do I just click on the red link and download it, fill everything and print it out? Do I need to pay for those documents? If so where is the fee for this?

Yes, that is the approximate fee. We paid a similar amount plus the cost of my visa. Yes, download the documents from their website and fill them out.

When I send all the documents to the Secretary of State do I need write them a letter with those documents? If so what do I tell them or just tell them that I need those document apostille for Vietnam marriage? As for the Consulate in SF what do I tell them or I don't need to tell anything? Also can you guys give me the Address for the Secretary of State and VN Consulate in SF please :D

For SOS, a letter saying you need Apostilles for foreign marriage registration. For SF consulate, attach all the forms together with the application for marriage registration and fee on the top, they will know what you want.

It's difficult to answer so many questions in one reply but:

  1. Get all the pertaining documents from the website
  2. Fill everything out completely
  3. Get your required documents from gov sources
  4. Get everything that is not a certified copy notarized (google Notary, your city)$10 each
  5. Take all your US documents to the Sec States office in Olympia for apostilles ($10 each)
  6. Send all the documents from the list to the consulate in San Francisco (when we did this it was 180, might have changed, you can get your visa at the same time +$40) They will come back translated, with official seals and cover pages from the consulate. These are to certify to the VN government that the papers are legit, in VN, they would have no way of knowing if they are fake without them.
  7. Take the returned documents to VN
  8. Meet with the lawyer

Are you already married? If so, no need to wait you can file anytime. If not, obviously you can't file until that is completed. There is an interview process at the licensing office for her, but you won't even be involved other than going there with her and smiling for the photo at the end.

Rostov in this reply from you say to "Get your required documents from gov sources" which is what? Also no I haven't done the wedding yet so do I still need to get the Application for Marriage Registration or get it after the wedding?

also do I need to get the Bio Info Sheet and have it notarized and apostille too?

You are confusing two issues. There is no fee to download the forms from their website.

There is a fee to process the filled out paperwork.

Uhmmmm....When you got your passport, you either got a form from the Post Office or downloaded it from the website, for this there was no charge, right? When you filled out the form and sent it in for processing, there is a fee to get a passport, right?

Exactly the same here.

Rostov, I admire your patience.

It is slowly waning however. I think I missed a couple of birthdays.

Hey do I send the Affidavit of Single Status AFIDAVITOFSINGLESTATUS.pdf that I download from the VN Embassy to the Consulate in San Francisco or no? If I don't need to send it to the Consulate then all I need is to notarized it and send it to the Secretary of State right? The only document that I will need to send to the Consulate in San Francisco is the Passport, Certificate of Non-marriage/Letter of No Record, Medical Certificate right? What about the Bio Info Sheet do I need to send that to the SoS and Consulate too?

you have to send it all to get stamped by the consulate I believe

To quotes a movie, “So how does it happen, great love? Nobody knows... but what I can tell you is that it happens in the blink of an eye. One Moment you're enjoying your life, and the next you're wondering how you ever lived without them.” I felt I found something with Kieu that is rare in life... true love.
