Just filed Report of foreign marriage with the NY embassy anyone have trouble with them accepting this in the past? I saw one person complain they required a type of marriage certificate that they couldn't get. Seems like they make you jump through a lot of hoops just to register your marriage.

We recently filed ours with the Washington DC embassy with no problems. The certificate we used is just the official version from the courthouse (with stamp). However, we were warned to bring the official version only, not the ceremonial version of the certificate. We received 2 certificates, 1 official which is a bit bland and resembles a car title and another fancy kind used for framing. This "framing" version is is invalid proof of marriage, just to look pretty hanging on the wall I guess. Maybe the person having trouble was using this kind of certificate.

Just thought I would give an update in case anyone else is doing this. It took about 25 days to process and they accepted everything we sent. We did include an affidavit that said this was our first and only marriage since our marriage certificate did not list the number of previous marriages. We did it by mail to the ny embassy.

We also used a return priority mail envelope rather than express to save some money.
