stupid question from my part. if ur married arent you supposed to be the beneficiary on you husband's inssurance? meaning 80% of the medical cost?

Husband may not have a job.

Husband may not have a job with benefits (happens more and more these days).

Husband may not have added wife to insurance at the correct time.

Husband's insurance may pay little for maternity care or not cover hospitals near OP.

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

yah you're right... husband has a job but salary is not good enough... and the company does not provide a benefits for the family.. the company provides insurance just for the employee and family is not included...

im planning to look for a clinic that do vbac.. i would like to try it coz it's much cheaper than c-section...

I had some medical treatments which were quite expensive in a prostate related situation, visit, PSA test, biopsy, scope, and ct scan. I am lucky enough to be on medicare, so that left me with only a bill of $622.00 or so out of what it actually cost at over $3300.00. I got the bill from the medical center. On the bill it said that it was due to all be paid unless other arrangements were made. Then there was a number to call to talk about arrangements for paying for this charge. I could have put it on my charge card, but I didn't want to dump that much on the card as I pay it off every month for cheaper credit. The medical center told me that they would finance it for me for 6 months which would have cost me about $100.00 each month. They told me that U.S. Bank would finance it for me at zero percent interest, and it would be either $30.00 each month or 1 percent of the total bill, whichever would be the larger amount. Since it was $622.00 it will be $30.00 each month. If my bill had been $10,000.00 then it would have been 1 percent of the total bill. So you need to talk with them and find out what they will do for you. I was not so lucky in year 2004 as I needed to have a TURP procedure, which was quite expensive, but I don't remember the exact amount. The hospital had one bill, and the medical center had another, and they were both about the same. I did not have any insurance, and I made too much money at the time for any kind of help that would just take care of the bill for me. There were people who helped work out situations like that, and I was expected to pay for my own bill, but they worked out a plan for me to pay each month. One of them either the doctor or the hospital was interst free, but the other charged interest, but the payments were small. I was given money from a church because they cared about me. I took that money, and a little I had been saving from my tips, I was a tourist guide giving narrated tours, and getting tips, anyway I used my tips and money from this church to pay off the one that charged interest, and then I paid the other off each month as scheduled, and that worked out great even though I had no insurance, and the bills were quite large. It seems like it was something like 8 or 10 thousand. So talk with the medical facility, and they may have a program that will help you pay for it. I could not believe U.S. Bank would finance my medical cost at no interest charged. I think they do that so that they can call me ever so often and try to get me to buy something, or get some of their services that cost my money, and give them money, but that is a small price to pay I think. I am possibly facing the same surgical procedure that I had in 2004, and they told me when I was talking with them on the telephone, that it I had further bills from the doctor, medical center, or hospital, like that possible surgery, all I have to do is ask them to add that to U.S. Bank's charge and it will be financed as well, and that is very good news for me, because I can just pay a little each month instead of owing this huge amount that I might not know how to pay for it. So talk with them and see what they will do for you. I hope they will work out something for you that you can handle. As other posters have said they have to provide the service for you, and then after they can help you figure out how to pay for it. We have a daughter who is in a similar situation right now with a collar bone broken in 3 places, possibly needing surgery. She was told at the hospital that if she needs surgery, she will have it, and then they will figure later how to cover the cost. She has very little income and no insurance. She is an RN, but cutting an selling firewood now, so maybe they better put her to work in the hospital, so she can pay her bill. She was a baby nurse, was sick, they claimed she didn't call in, so they fired her. There is another lady from this same hospital who is now suing because they did the same thing to her. Talk to them and see what they will do for you. I hope it works out great for you, and that you have a healthy baby.

At the end of the day, do what's medically best for you and your child...costs be damned. No one's going to turn you away from the hospital if you're in labor. Make a payment plan and pay it back over time.

I'm just saying if you're only choosing a VBAC because it's cheaper, that may not be what's healthiest. Not saying you shouldn't do a VBAC either...how would I know, I'm not a doctor. But just don't let finances dictate what is the best option for your family.

Good luck.

hi! im 4 months pregnant right now and don't have any medical insurance... im seeing a ob-gyne right now and paid almost 3/4 of $2200 for the pre-natal ( coz i will be having a c-section) in $2200 hospital confinement and epidural and ultrasound and laboratory not yet included... i know how expensive it is to give birth here..

we already applied for medicaid but sad to say i was DENY... coz im a non-citizen.

can anyone share their ideas on how will i be qualified for an emergency medicaid?

thank you so much.....

Most states offer a form of "emergency medicaid" for pregnant women and infants. It is in fact a form of state administered insurance plan with a sliding payment scale which guarantees coverage. In addition to delivery services, it usually provides for quality prenatal care through term and some months of neonatal care for your newborn. Also, minor children in many states have health and dental services available which like the afore mentioned program are fully state funded and thus not off limits to new immigrants who are beneficiaries of an AOS.

In part this is because, newly immigrated persons are not insurable for the first 6 months of residency, a pregnant woman is not insurable under private individual insurance plans and may not even be added to some group health plans. Furthermore, If your child is a step child, you cannot add to a private insurance plan as your own child but only as the child of your spouse. If your pregnant spouse cannot be added, then...............your step child will remain uninsurable as well.

Talk to a health care worker at your local health or welfare department for more information specific your state.

Hi. I applied because I dont have any income and my husband just got laid off, so they processed my application and then sent me a letter that I'm approved and gave me the insurance provider for my county. Then I called the insurance provider and they sent me a package of my benefits and everything else. It took only 2 weeks for mine. I guess it depends on who's processing.

You should also apply for WIC (Women Infant and Children). They will provide you free prenatal classes/ a lil healthy food items for pregnant women and your soon to be child. http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/

What state are you?

Have you read this site? Especially the Child Health Assurance Program.. There might be some information on there that might help.

Or you may call the number for your city and ask.

hi! i was approve for emergency medicaid.. but was not able to receive anything from them... we go to the welfare and they just gave me a medicaid billing number... we're you schedule for your delivery? o you waited until u labored? coz im due in january 21, and should be having a c-section. is it true that i should wait first to be in labored then go to the hospital or i could go to the hospital before my due date? thanks!

I am amazed in reading this that the petitioner, who was required to show proof of ability to support this person, clearly, in fact, had no intention of this whatsoever. He had a job without benefits for the employee's family but he declined to get any other kind of insurance outside of his job? Puh-leeze!

What was the outcome? It is now March and I am curious how this was financially handled.

(BTW--for my 2nd delivery, we had a homebirth with a licensed midwife--it was certainly a VBAC--first section was cited for cephalopelvic disproportion but the 2nd baby was a full 2 pounds heaver with a larger head circumference. Total money down 18 years ago was 1200U$--I think now the running rate in Houston is around double that.)
