maybe some of you know of my situation, fiance in new delhi, had his interview august 3rd and was denied saying our relationship not bonafide. I have sought much help and emailed all over creation for help in getting second chance. We got senators involved . yet they told my sentor office we were denined still. NOW after application has expired and all hope drained.. they email me at midnite 9/1/2011 (today) we have a second interview, BUT they want me in NEw Delhi by 10am tomorrow, IMPOSSIBLE. No flight I have checked will get me there in time. I emailed them this info and am waiting, i called the embassy and got nowhere they said allow this hard fought for interview to pass then come and pay them to reactivate a nos how interview. What? i call the senators office and told them everything , they agree its not right and they dont like that the embassy lied to them about our case only to come back and give us an IMPOSSIBLE 2nd interview date. For now we wait to see what will happen as the senator office will again contact embassy. Has anyone ever dealth with this before? I have talked to a lawyer to see abt what else we can do. There is no flight that is able to get me to India that fast.. we had only a few hours notice? thats ridiculous. any other ideas?

Thats terrible!!! You've got your senator on your side, which is good. Have you tried contacting DOS and see what they tell you about your case? Here's a post on how to get through to a person at DOS. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

good luck and hope you can get the interview rescheduled! (F)

; that is crazy! HOpefully the Embassy will understand and realize you couldn't make it in time anyhow, and set up a new interview date and give you time to book a flight and make it in time.

Keep us updated and good luck!!

Guys, no offence but I think we need to stop being judgmental for a second. The embassy employees are in the first place diplomatic people, and they are reflecting their countries image. I believe it is all a matter of unintentional human mistake, not the embassy’s attitude, because if that is true, the embassy is simply telling the world that they are just a bunch of uncaring stupid people who don't give a s*** about who you are or what you are going through which i believe is not true. Why don't we stop for a sec and see this whole thing about COs and visa apps from another perspective? Why can't we just see them as really trying to look for a reason to approve us? And that they are not “out to get us” and trying to find reasons for denial. I mean, how would it hurt them approving people who really have true relationship!?

I really think it’s just a mistake that they wanted you to fly over in a day. I hope contacting the senator’s office is of help, and we wish you the best of luck on your journey.

your situation does sound a little bit out of place and things did not happen as should have had happened.

Either the embassy is not sure where you are or there is some mis-communication somewhere. Infact all COs in embassy are USC and they have flown from US to India so they know it is not possible to fly at 24 hr notice or for you to be present there in a days time.

Keep your congressman/senator involved and hope they can sort out the things, but you will need patience with long weekend around the bend things might again slow down.

Hopefully they can fix things.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you! I hope you resolve the situation soon. Now, to people that are bashing US embassy workers: please, stop! We do not know all the details and we know only one side of the story. While I am sympathetic with OP I do believe that we heard only one part of the story and we cannot jump to conclusions until we know entire story. I can tell you that from my experience with the consular workers in US consulates and embassies: they are always very nice, very diplomatic, VERY GOOD psychologists. They are NOT stupid and NOT careless. You cannot compare them with DMV or Social Security workers. This is a different breed of people. In order to become consular worker you have to pass almost impossible to pass exam and be well trained. There must be something that we do not know. I wish OP the best of luck but in a lot of cases at first it seems that this is consular officer fault but with time it turns out that either consular worker is right OR there is some mistake on the part of the applicant...

With all due respect, a little venting about the New Delhi embassy is justified. I was just there in August and they are not all very nice or very diplomatic. If you read up on the stories you will find that most inter-racial couples are treated very differently than the Indian-Indian couples by this embassy in particular. That would be more understandable if the officers were Indian nationals, but as Americans, they should recognize and accept diversity. They should also recognize that if an Indian is willing to marry an non-Indian American, then that Indian is probably very different from the cultural norms of India and perhaps should be judged by the cultural norms of America instead.

Each country has it's own unique issues and even embassies withing each country can present different patterns of behavior. I think it would be hard to appreciate the difficulty of this situation unless you yourself are going through an embassy that has such obviously different standards for inter-racial couples. This particular embassy has a long history of demanding things of all of their applicants that other embassies don't require such as notarized letters from friends and family, contact information for all potential wedding attendees, voting records for the last five years. Sometimes they even call your home or visit to see if you're actually already married to someone else. One couple was just denied because the petitioner lived within 30 minutes of her ex-husband and the CO thought that was too close even though they have joint custody of their son.

Crazy stuff happens at this embassy; if the OP wants to vent, I 100% support that and will join in the cause. Especially as I am on AP for absolutely no reason given and have no idea when it will end...and I was place there by this embassy.

By Senators do you mean your local Congressman? If not, then go to them. They have a person that takes care of all this stuff and have channels to get a little more information through their diplomatic channels. The embassy is required by law to answer the Congressional inquiry within a certain amount of time. I had to have my Congressman get involved and they got a general idea why we were put in AP and that allowed me to write a long letter explaining what they were concerned about and then had the Congressman send it over to them. Funny thing but we got my now wife's visa within a week after that. Good luck!111

Yes! Thank you for saying this! This is the most irritating thing about New Delhi. These are Americans placing scrutiny and unjustified torment on interracial couples. I can understand to a certain degree that Delhi was known as the biggest fraud post in India but isn't this the reason they made this process exceedingly more difficult? I should think that if there was a fraudulent couple that they would be scared away well before the interview stage. This exceptionally stressful, anxiety-ridden process is only tolerable because we truly love the people we are petitioning for.

That being said, Kirpal and I have barely begun the process and are still a long ways away from the interview phase. Even with the information both of us know now, I highly doubt our journey will be all peaches and cream. Both of us are preparing for a potentially long, stressful, and highly scrutinized process ahead.

I am the petitioner.
