By the same token if the max speed in the country were 40 or 45 MPH just imagine how many lives could be further saved..... or, if we all were made to wear helmets when driving. (or even when leaving the house)

Given the freedom to do so, there is almost no limit to how much Gov-co could protect us.

Everything in moderation as they say. When the limits were 55/60 yes it was painfully slow but 85 is starting to climb into unsafe territory. If its for roads that are empty as Paul says then I guess statistically its no big deal.

What about those who in the heat of the moment pick up the gun, because it is in their glove box. How many of them would actually cool down on a drive home and would not return? This is an issue where lives could be at stake, not something trivial.

How would helicopters aid in culling the wild boar population where opening up a year round hunting season would not? All it does is enable the fat and lazy people to shoot at things. Sorry, but if you're not qualified to use a firearm and hunt, then you shouldn't be firing the gun in the first place.

My company has a strict "no firearm" policy. They reserve the right to inspect any employee vehicle and will fire them if they resist. They will also fire terminate their employment if they find a single casing or bullet or anything firearm related in the car. They can do so because they have an "At will" employment policy. And more over, it is detailed in the employee handbook and the contract every employee has to sign.

All it takes is one worker with a gun to go postal which will make them liable in the tune of millions. So they wont risk it.

No company can force upon you a search of private property. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

With a policy like that I'd park off-property just so they don't have an excuse.

I think you are right, including a persons work space with the exception of a reasonable situation such as retrieving a file.

My company has a lot of draconian laws like that written in the employment contract. They can fire someone if they are seen driving without their seat-belt on, or talking on their cell phone while driving even if they driving their personal car during their personal time. If people do not like that, then tough luck.. they will just hire someone else who will adhere by their rules. They have been doing this for 30+ years, no lawsuit. They do this because they pay for all their employees health & disability insurance and can keep their rates low which will save them a lot of $ if they have less safety incidents every year.

Why on earth would I, or anyone for that matter want to go to Texas to 'hunt' a pig? I say 'hunt' in quotes because if you are shooting an animal from a moving vehicle, that is not hunting, and in many states is considered poaching. We have wild pigs here too, and much better climate :P

Nope, HR didn't send out a memo or anything. However they just fired 2 guys from the shop for rough-housing and cussing at each other.. apparently the F-word is not allowed :help: They are that ####### about workplace violence.

just checked with HR ... this was discussed at corporate and they should have the formal policy edited in a few days. corp does not want to be in non-compliance with state laws ... too much $$$$ involved to fight it.

Poaching is the illegal taking of wild plants or animals contrary to local and international conservation and wildlife management laws. The local (state law) determines that aircraft are not illegal methods of shooting this animal (other animals it would be). with the hog population problem being such an issue ... something needs to be done to thin the heard ... make it easier to hunt. ( think of all the $ to be earned by those helo drivers in the process of helping farmers/ ranchers protect their crops/ domestic animals :P )

That is why I said some states Natty, not all. Seriously, if you're that lazy that you cant' go out and hunt, you really shouldn't bother. What is next, bullets that don't actually require you to pull the trigger, because some people just don't have gobs of time to do that? Lazy is lazy, no need to put a bow on it Natty.

Certainly not trivial. But you're imagining one scenario out of infinite possibilities. What if an employee gets a flat tire on the way home from work and someone stops to rob/assault/rape/whatever him or her? The gun at home is really not that useful. What if the employee is going hunting right after work? There are countless what ifs. This is really about the ability of an employer to stipulate what an employee can and cannot carry in his or her car. If it isn't otherwise illegal, and particularly if it's out of sight, it's none of the employer's business.

How would helicopters aid in culling the wild boar population where opening up a year round hunting season would not? All it does is enable the fat and lazy people to shoot at things. Sorry, but if you're not qualified to use a firearm and hunt, then you shouldn't be firing the gun in the first place.

You're missing my point. I didn't say that the helicopters necessarily would help. I just said that they wouldn't hurt. The law was changed to say that helicopter hunting isn't illegal. In order for that to be unreasonable, there has to be a reason why helicopter hunting is bad. All you're saying is that it's no better than hunting on foot. Even if that were true, it's not sufficient.

Further, helicopter hunting provides safety from counterattack. Hogs are mean. I don't care what your qualifications are, you can miss. And what's so terribly wrong with fat and lazy people shooting at things? They're paying to take care of a public problem. Further, they're paying quite a bit which means that while they may be fat they probably aren't that lazy. They just have a desk job and aren't in good shape.
