Scottish/British Police Certificates

Hi everyone,

We just received our NOA1 last week, and are well aware that there is likely to be a reasonably long waiting period before we hear anything further from USCIS, assuming we don't get a RFE.

I was wondering if anyone on VJ, especially any Brits, could tell me how far in advance you should generally apply for a Police Certificate? And how long are British Police Certificates valid for?

I know this may sound stupid, but I googled British Police Certificate and what came up what info about the Disclosure Scotland Act, and how to apply for a Disclosure. Would I be correct in saying that applying for a Basic Disclosure equates to applying for a Police Certificate. I'm sorry if this sounds really dumb, but I'm on information overload right now.
