I551 Stamp- What is it and do I need it.

Hi Everyone,

I have just received notification that my temporary green card has been approved and is on its way (I didn't get asked to attend an interview). When changing my timeline I noticed a box about getting a I551 stamp. What exactly is this? Do I need it? Is it something that most people get if they get interviewed? And if so how do you get it if you didn't get an interview. I feel like at this point in my visa journey I should know what this stamp is, but I haven't actually heard of it before.

You don't need it. You are already approved just wait for your green card.

The stamp is a temporary green card stamp.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

Since your AOS petition has been approved, you are now formally a lawful permanent resident (LPR) of the United States of America. As such you have all the rights (and duties) associated with it, meaning you would be able to apply for a driver's license today, or accept a job, today, or travel internationally, today.

The document that proves your status is the Green Card. Its code is I-551, and you'll receive it in the mail in about a week or two. Should you now desire to do any of the things I mentioned above before getting the actual card, you would be able to get the I-551 stamp in your passport to "bridge" the time until you have the plastic version in hand.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . .
