Hi, my husband joint-sponsored his friend's wife for green card. this was 2 years ago so she still a permanent resident. yesterday my husband found out that they been taking food stamps since the beginning of 2011. may question is will the government ask my husband to pay back since she is nt a citizen?

we just bought a house. will they take it if my husband couldnt pay the gov back?

plz help

Did they both get food stamps? If so how, the greencard holder isn't elligible for 5 years? If it's just the USC husband getting them, there is no problem. If she gets them through WIC, then there is no problem. If she does get regular food stamps then yes, there is a chance the government will ask your husband to pay this back, but they will go after the woman's husband first.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

yes they both get food stamps! when my husband ask them. they said that its her husband who applied and she never did and because u have to answer the household members so her husband include her. after that the link card came for three people since they just had a baby!

The immigrant wife should not be receiving food stamp. The US citizen husband and US citizen baby can receive food stamp.

As the joint sponsor, your husband would be liable to reimburse the means tested benefits that the immigrant used while the I-864 obligation is still in force. If the US government does not ask for reimbursement, then your husband is under no obligation to repay it.
