Does anyone know the processing time difference if you're in the military and your spouse is filing a N-400? My wife filed the N-400 and according to the instructions I had included a signed document stating that I'm the husband of the requestor and that I'm currently in the U.S. military. My wife had her biometrics/fingerprinting on 8/8/2011, haven't been notified as to an interview date as of yet.

Also, our daughter/my step-daughter just turned 17, my wife filed the Single Application Fee to include biometrics/fingerprinting at a cost of $680. If my wife becomes a U.S. citizen prior to our daughters 18 birthday, will this make our daughter a U.S. citizen as well or do we have to submit additional paperwork for our daughter?

Thank you,

Keith & Xiang

Process for military works the same way unless you are the active duty military that is applying for citizenship or you are at a PCS/deployment out of the USA and your spouse is applying for US citizenship out of country on orders with you.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

as long is your wife's daughter is not over 18, and your wife becomes a us citizen and she's not over 18, you just need to get the daughter a US passport and you could pay extra to get a certificate that states that the daughter is a US citizen, which in IMHO is not needed as she is a holder of a US passport, just sharing as my sister is an automatic US citizen, having an age not over 18,the same time my dad becomes a US citizen.

4 months if you get lucky.

Yes (to the citizen), and no (to the paperwork)

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Here we go again, a child under 18 years of age that automatically becomes a US citizen through their naturalized parent, but, without any proof of it. Least she is over 16 and does not require permission from here biological father to get a US passport.

But I wonder how she feels about becoming a US citizen? In another short year, will be of legal age and can decide for herself where she wants to live. Wisconsin Public Radio recently had a program on smiling. Seems like us Americans don't know how to smile and be happy like other cultures throughout the world, and we sure don't know how to have a good time. Long hours of work, practically no paid vacation or holidays, no time off to have a baby. That you have to do during your break, put the kid in day care and get back to work.

And what kind of work, stepdaughter was very negative, spent 16 bucks on gas, that is only four gallons to drive to her part time job to learn she was needed that day. Suppose to graduate next spring, and having problems trying to find a good job in her career field. We were paying 525 bucks for her for an apartment near her school that should have been condemned a long time ago. Typical of America to rob college students and not a damned thing you can do about it.

Also in this great melting pot of this so-called great country, still a lot of racial prejudice she has to deal with, unfortunately her traits are more like her biological father than her German heritage mom. So she is now talking about returning to her home country. Yet another concern of hers is health insurance, under our policy now, but that is quickly coming to an end. Another area where Americans are getting robbed blind besides outrageous property, state, and federal income taxes. So I cannot blame her for wanting to leave.

So what about your stepdaughter? She didn't marry you, just tagged along without much say in the matter!

How much of a choice are you supposed to give a 12 year old?

When your wife takes her oath and officially becomes a US citizen, her daughter will automatically become a US citizen if she was 1) under age 18, 2) have a US citizen parent (your wife), 3) live in the custody of the US parent, and 4) has been admitted to the US as an LPR. (Child must also be single.) Look at the Child Citizenship Act (CCA).

No paperwork has to be filed on behalf of your stepdaughter if she acquires automatic citizenship under the CCA. However, she will need some form of documentation of her US citizenship as she goes through life. A certificate of citizenship (file form N-600) will cost $600. A US passport will cost around $100 (approximately). She can get one of the two or she can get both. Some people consider getting the certificate of citizenship to be a waste of money and only apply for the US passport. The US passport is sufficient to prove US citizenship.
