I wasn't born in the USA and don't have a birth certificate and on the Embassy website it doesn't say I need one. Only says I need my passport. I do have my USA citizen papers, I sent my birth certificate in for that and they never returned it. Hummm now I'm confused, is this for the Free to Marry certificate? Thank you for the info.

Nothing is ever easy is it!

No, you dont need birth certificate to get the letter from embassy to marry, Your passport is what they will ask for.

When i mentioned papers, I meant since your going to stay there for 6 months then file, I was just saying take any papers you may need , for process, cause being in Egypt, its not going to be easy to get from USA, unless you have contact person here who can assist you. We thought of doing the DCF, but with my job here, and house, and etc, we decided not too.

Soloenta, did you hear? YOU have to get a visa BEFORE you go to Egypt now. Call your local Egyptian consulate for details. I called mine here in Houston, its $20.00 , bring your passport and 1 passport pic. For ones already legally married to Egyptian nationals, there is no charge, just bring wedding cert. with you to consulate.

Takes 5 minutes to get visa from Egyptian consulate.

Well the tourist visa is good for 1 months, and I read Egyptian immigration has not been extening visas. Not sure how this will all work out for her there.

Egyptdailynews.com had a informing article on all of this.

We thought about doing the DCF, but decided against it, sooooo, mailing our packet to Chicago by end of month, need to do some fine tuning on it, and Im waiting for my life insurance policy to come in showing him as the beneficiary. And wanting a updated bank statement of our joint account in Egypt.

Sorry, Egypt's Heart, I was referring to Soloenta.

And I am not sure I understand if you were answering my question about "Does Egypt still accept DCF since August 15, 2011?" Or is it no longer an option for Egypt?

I am just worried if Soloenta's plan is to stay 6 months and try DCF and then DCF is no longer possible from Egypt. I know many countries do not allow it since August 15 if they do not have a USCIS office. And I am not sure if Egypt has a USCIS office or just the embassy.

Thanks

USCIS Centralizes Filing of Form I-130

Published May 16, 2011; revised Aug. 10, 2011

WASHINGTON - Effective Aug. 15, 2011, petitioners residing in countries without USCIS offices must file their Form I-130, Petition for an Alien Relative, with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) lockbox facility in Chicago. This change makes the filing process more efficient and gives USCIS greater flexibility in managing its workload.

Petitioners residing in a country with a USCIS office may send their petitions to the USCIS Chicago lockbox, or file at the USCIS office in that country. Overseas petitioners filing with the lockbox should expect processing times similar to petitions filed domestically, which currently stand at five months

I got married in Egypt in April 2011. It took us 6 days from start to finish to complete all the steps.

Please look at this website of the embassy. It explains it all. But it does not tell you how busy each agency is that you go to and wait all day...

Good luck

Oh thank you so much this helps a lot and yes I looked at the Embassy website and will be printing it out to not make any mistakes. Thank

you again. :)

PS. The link isn't working is it for the USA or Egyptian Embassy?

Okay, I thought you were going to do DCF filing, marry, then apply at embassy in 6 months for his visa, are you marring there, then going to send papers to USCIS in USA, and just wait for process there?

No matter what you do, you must take into consideration if Egyptian immigration will extend your 30 days visitors visa. I've read they have not

been extending visas there, they are doing a immigration crack down, which I cant blame them. Also you need to check to see if you can stay there under your husbands citizenship, that might be your key to stay there legally while your doing the immigration dance. Cause don't stay there if your there illegally. Have your husband to be contact Egyptian immigration there, and ask some questions.

loved ones for any reason if it's all legal.

Okay, there is NO more DCF filings in Egypt. So what you have to do is marry, then send all your paperwork to the Chicago USCIS lock box and they will forward it to the assigned USCIS office who will process your petition.

Which means, you can file right after marriage, you don't have to wait 6 months to file as was the DCF filing regulations.

But you must see if you can extend your visa to stay there as you wait for the processing of your paperwork, that is important.

Best wishes,

Beth
