Hello all,

Just a quick question to anyone who can help. I recently picked up a new job and obviously they are asking for a copy of my social security card and my permanent resident card. My 2 year green card runs out at the end of September. If my employer questions this what do i say? I was thinking of telling them that i am in the process of having it renewed and actually renewed to a 10 year green card (which is what i am doing) I will be filing my I-751 petition this week, so it will be in process.

I was curious to know what happens once the date expires on the green card, what if people get a new job at that time, the green card has expired so the employer will automatically think that person is illegal.

Any help/advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated,

Thankyou in advance.

You will need to provide a copy of the extension letter that you get then provide a copy of the 10yr card when you get it. Atleast this is what my employment place had told me because they have to keep a file on me and have all proper paperwork showing i'm good to work.

Why not use the drivers license plus SSN card? Employer doesn't get to request what proof you show them - it's up to you. I never showed my GC, always DL plus SSN card and it was enough.
