In terms of the J1/I-765 issue, if you are referring to question 11, unless you applied for a separate EAD while on your J1 visa then I would think the answer to that question is "no". J1 is a visa, not an employment authorization document, and you haven't really applied for permission to accept employment if you only applied for the J1. It's an exchange visitor visa that can also be used for certain types of work, but it's not the same as applying for work authorization from USCIS. I am not 100% sure about this, but maybe someone else will chime in with more concrete knowledge about this.

Thanks for your answer Little_My!

Yes, it's about question 11, but also about the one on the very top: I am applying for Permission to accept employment, or renewal of my permission to accept employment. But these questions go together, I guess. I know that the J-1 Visa is also issued to exchange students who for example go to an American High School. They are obviously not authorized to accept employment. I on the other hand worked and got money for that, I have a Social Security Number and I payed taxes. But like I said, I had the job before I even applied for the J-1, and I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have been allowed to accept any other job. And I didn't apply for an EAD. So I would tend to say no as well... If someone else knows this for sure though, let me know :)

For the first question, you should answer "permission to accept employment". I am still leaning on "no" for 11. You have never had an employment authorization document, which is what that question is referring to.
