Wow I was thinking I had imagined that thread, because there is no trace of it anywhere on here! Glad to know it wasn't just me searching for it.

I always thought they just locked threads instead of deleting 'em...

Thank you for the quick reply.

I like the thread because it shows why the I-864 is not just a document and shows the potential pitfalls for a joint sponsor.

I realize this thread is 10 days old, but what the heck. Just so it doesn't hang out there in cyber land....an immigrant cannot the S/CS sue based on the i864. This is an agreement between the sponsor/cosponsor and the US. The immigrant actually is not party to the contract. Nor does the i864 say that the S/CS will actually support the immigrant...what is says is the S/CS agrees to reimburse the gov't if they pay out any means tested benefits to the immigrant.

But you're right...there are pitfalls to signing that document. Some (imo) sign it way too easily.
