I live in Michigan currently, and we ARE 2 years behind with the economy. You cant get a job to save your soul. Well one you can live on. Yes the houses have depreciated... nice thing to admitt I couldnt even sell my house this year for what I bought it for,,, not even for 10k less. Taxes cheap????? I was paying 6000.00 ayear for a 189,000 house...cheap???

For great taxes and excellent view go to the Upper Penninsula. But no jobs...

If this doesnt change soon.... When DH comes Im movin to where he can get the job he wants. I keep saying Alaska as I hate heat. He just thinks Im nuts cause he hates the cold. I have ulterior motives...hehehehehe

I hate to say it, because it's my home state, but michigan's economy is in the toilet right now. although if you were looking to buy a house you'd find a good deal!

I'm partial to the midwest- like having 4 seasons, friendly, down to earth people, etc. The Indianapolis area is surprisingly nice. Nice downtown with plenty to see and do, a good buzz about the city, excellent neighborhoods (once you get past the not so excellent neighborhoods that surround downtown, of course), and a decent economy, low taxes, LOW house prices and cost of living...

I miss the lakes of michigan, though! If you are a very outdoorsy person Indy probably wouldn't suit you.

I don't know if it is the best place to live ever, but I am now kind of playing with the idea of upstate New York. Though taxes seem to be rather high, it looks to meet our other requirements for places to live: Low housing costs, general COL only barely higher than with what I would expect in the Midwest, decent unemployment rates (I understand the economy is restructuring), good sailing and fishing, decent universities, close to Toronto, Montreal and New York City, four seasons. Not all too bad, taxes aside. Only real con against it is that I have no family in that area, but I guess that hasn't ever stopped my husband and I before.

Boston is wicked pissah, I agree but it's also wicked expensive.

If it weren't for my ex I'd move in a NY minute to a place where it's cheaper, warmer and flatter. Funny about Texas being flat...I'd LOVE to live in a flat state!!!

Well just to be realistic, everyone here is probably going to put where they live, so choices will be by preferance. Maybe a city that has your strong culture base would be a good start. Weather, cost of living, jobs, and polulation will probably all be factors in your choice of cities. I live in south florida and it is nice here, weather is great and many events with different cultures, but the cost of living is high and the weather can be scary between aug - nov. So everything will be preferance, so just do a little research on the internet and find out things about the cities your interested in......good luck

I recently saw an article on AOL news I think it was, that Raleigh NC is the best city in the country at the moment for available jobs.

I can't remember what the rest of the Top 10 were, but for some reason, having Raleigh at the top of the list surprised me. Probably because the western half of the state has no jobs at the moment. :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Austin Texas:

Warm(er) Weather, Friendly People (usually), Fairly Safe, Decent Schools, Good Atmosphere/things-to-do, Close To Other Large Cities, Affordable Housing (compared to many), Pretty Good Employment.
