Hi,

My fiancee and I went to the social security office to apply for her ssn and for her daughers as well, ages 5 and 7. We were told that k2s needed to have a work authorization.

Can a minor child, k2, with a valid, unexpired I194 get an ssn?

No, at least not on the basis of the unexpired I-94. Only a K1 is eligible for an SSN based on an unexpired I-94. The K2 child can get an SSN once they have an EAD or green card.

The k-2s can get an itin though if you are looking ahead to tax return time.(If the AOS isn't completed by then) But I know k-2s are not allowed to get a ssn with the i-94 basis.

Removal of conditions Journey

16 March 2012 Sent I-751 package from Aviano AB, Italy.

29 March 2012 Received everything back...wrong fee. thought we didn't have to pay biometrics since we were sending fingerprint cards and passport photos.

30 March 2012 Sent everything out again from Aviano AB, Italy.

10 April 2012 Check cashed

17 April 2012 Received NOA1 dated 6 April.

06 Dec 2012 Received 10 yr green card. Letter said it was approved 28 November 2012.
