you still cannot work, even though you got your SSN before you were out of status.

You wont be deported as you are eligiblibe for adjustment based on marriage to USC.

You still will always be living under fear of detention until your AOS is complete, I would diagree with Jim on this one now days more and more places Govt agency wants to check you are legally present in the country.

Even local police is checking for your immigration status which earlier they never bothered to do as it was duty of federal agency.

See the case from yesterday President Obama's uncle was detained for being illegally in the country - he was pulled over for simple traffic offence.

ok i see... thank u so much..:thumbs:

this thread is very helpful for those who are not yet sending their AOS atleast they will gonna have ideas what they are dealing into..

Your medical would have expired and that would also cost additional money to get it done before you could AOS. Additional cost that may really be avoided if you could borrow the money for AOS in the first place.

And what if the case is.. i got SSN card before a was out of status...? bcoz we can apply for SSN card after we once arrived here in US but in some reasons we can't file AOS bcoz of financial problem...

You got the SSn ..good for you but u can not work unless u have the EAD.

I think you should read the instructions & other USCIS info for filing AOS late and the time frame penalties for filing late. It could cost you up to another $1,000 for filing late, depending upon how long! Do your research. Try to get this done immediately if you can. Apply for credit card and borrow against it so you can work legally becuse you'll have to meet minimum income requirements too!

Good luck and be SMART!

I would file asap. Keep you passport and entry card in your passport with you at all times. Borrow the money and file, so you can get EAD work, AP travel etc.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Back in April this year I was in Charlotte Airport NC. I went out for a smoke and seen an ICE Officer, I went over and asked him for a light. I had about a 3 minute conversation with him and nothing was mentioned about my status.

I know an ex ICE Officer who has worked in certain areas all over the USA, he says that certain people get hit on a regular bases in certain areas.

Lets just say you get pulled over by a cop for no reason. Same thing goes for the ICE, wrong place at the wrong time and tough bloody luck if your illegal.

If your near the Borders of the US or in an area that there is a lot of illegals, then your chances of being checked go up.

As for the local police checking for immigration status, that is in only in certain States that they are allowed to.

The risk is you will be out of status which means u can not work .Out of status that u can not get ur SSN or driver's license .

I disagree about not getting a SSN, because, you can get a SSN without filing AOS. We were able to get a SSN, without filing AOS yet..YMMV

But to get DHS Homeland Security writing removed from the SSN card, you have to have at least an approval letter for your GC.

Another good reason to get your GC asap, is that your credit will go on the system.

It appears to me that you just do not want to pay anything and want a free ride. There are thousands of people that follow the rules and You want an exception just because you do not want to pay the fees. How fair is that? You knew upfront before the petition you would have to adjust status on a K-1 so you had plenty of time to have the money available. If you knoew way back you would never have the money then it was a waste of time to even go through the K-1 process and should have considered getting married in the Phils and then going the K-3 or Cr-1 avenue where you would not have had to adjust status. :bonk:
