In an interview on UStream, Mr Gore likened the debate over climate change to the Civil Rights movement in the US in the 1960s.

He said that in order for climate change advocates to secure action over global warming they must "win the conversation" against deniers.

"I remember again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me," he told Climate Reality Project collaboator Alex Bogusky.

"My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went 'Woah! How gross and evil is that?'."

He remembered how society marginalised racists and said climate change sceptics must be defeated in the same way.

"There came a time when... racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural.

"Then there came a time when people would say, 'Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong.

"We have to win the conversation on climate."

I wonder if a discussion on the efficacy of leeches and blood letting would be in 'off topic' or 'politics and religion'

It is a fact that no woman who has been burned as a witch has ever continue those activities which lead to her being burned - thus proving that witch burning is a logical and effective activity and is more fact based than theories on global warming

How do you know we are not causing it ? Carbon dioxide has never ever risen at the rate it is rising now. Carbon dioxide has always caused warming right back 4.5 billion years no matter what caused the CO2. The causes are always clear (eg volcanoes etc) but no other causes are happening right now - so it's simple deduction dear Watson - a process of elimination. Human power production is emitting CO2 when there are no other new sources. Carbon taxes discourage carbon emissions

The scientific evidence is that we are causing it. Of course, in the USA, anyone saying "the scientific....." loses the audience immediately because we don't like hedicated peeple. If someone says "God is causing warming. He invented cars to produce CO2 to punish us because we are not burning homosexuals", then everyone smiles and nods and can understand it

Perhaps Al Gore should have phrased it that way

No one has made more money from climate change hype than Gore. According to the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper, just one of the "green" companies in which Gore has invested has received over half a billion dollars in subsidies from the Energy Department.
