Attaining a tourist visa while waiting for K1 visa processing

Hey everyone! I have a question. I really want my fiance to be here when our baby is born. We are also applying for a K1 fiance visa. Do you think that the embassy will grant my fiance a tourist visa so that he cane be here for the birth of our child while the K1 visa is being processed? He has to travel back to his country for the interview that is apart of the fiance visa process so I think that would serve as ample ties to his country. If not, do you know how we could secure a visa so that he is here to cut the cord when our baby is born? Thank you!

From Senegal the chances are pretty slim that he would get a tourist visa with a pending K-1 visa and especially with a newborn child. A visa interview isn't proof of ties since he already has an intention to immigrate. You can try for a tourist visa but unless you can show a job or property or something else that will compel him to return home to wrap up loose ends, the chances are just not that good.

Extremely unlikely he'll get a tourist visa but if you have the money (I think it's less than $150), you can always try- even if denied, it won't affect his K1 process.

Have you looked into having the baby there? Even at a upscale private hospital it may be cheaper than having it in the USA...

It is worth to give it a try, if you have the money to spare. I was granted a B2 visa while waiting for my K-1 to be approved.

It helped a lot that I have had two prior tourist visas, and have visited the US a few times before. I was also working back home at the time, and was able to show strong ties to my country eventhough I did have intentions to immigrate later on using the K-1 route. They did not seem to mind that I had a K-1 pending, I was completely honest about it and gave them all the info. they didn't even ask me any questions about it during the B-2 interview.

Give it a try, worst case scenario you'll get denied but like someone else said, that won't affect your K-1 at all. Good luck!
