My wife-to-be has a small Yorkie and she is scared they will not let the dog into the country. Does anyone have any information about their loved ones bringing a pet into the country?

( Am I setting myself up for a K-9 Visa Joke or what??) :bonk:

She can bring him https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/66/session/L3NpZC9wNjJHT05Daw%3D%3D/search/1

Looks like she will need a rabies certificate. I have travelled with a cat and have gotten a letter of health from the vet before going. Good luck.

My wife and her friend (both coming on K-1s) brought their dogs to the US. Read up on it on the US Customs website; just a form to fill out there, bring rabies vaccination record and keep the dog in quarantine (in same house and not out in public or to a dog show) for 30 days upon arrival. Not a big deal.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

There is not actually a need for quarantine unless the rabies vaccine is not up to date or if it was only given within 30 days prior to travel. Or if they determine the dog is ill upon arrival, in which case they'll make you pay for a vet to check it out if it looks questionable. So be sure that the dog has its rabies vaccine more than 30 days before travel but within one year prior. You will need a rabies certificate and a health certificate. Coming in from some countries also requires you show proof that the dog does not have screw worm (a vet's letter will suffice -- it can be easily seen on the dog's skin). Don't know if Ukraine is one of those. Translate everything. In the end, we were only asked to prevent the rabies certificate, but you never know.

There are also airline requirements, so check them out (including temperature restrictions and not doping the animal). You are technically dealing with requirements by the CBP, CDC, and USDA, so check updated requirements on all of them. Also, there may be requirements for leaving on the Ukraine side.

We brought our miniature poodle in January. Let me know if you have any more questions. And don't put the dog through the x-ray machine in Customs! We accidentally did due to a mis-communication and it annoyed the supervisor. : )

We came with 3 cats last spring and we didn't have any problem. Strange, but they didn't check their passports and papers, but the customs checked the cans we had for them.

I chipped all of them and they got their shoots and that was all.

I was surprised that they didn't ask us anything. I checked everything before we bought the tickets for them. 2 of them were with us in the cabin and the youngest was in the luggage department.

Yorki is a small pet and I think that he can be with you. It's also good to check with the air company a size of the carrier you can have because you need a special dimension and a required material of the carrier so it can fit below the seat in the front of you.
