Quick question, Just got my K1 last week, will be POE in 3 weeks, married on Sept 23rd, Now my question is, I plan on filing my AOS as soon as I get my marriage certif back, AOS and EAD at the same time, from ppls experience has the EAD come before the greencard? If so how long did it take for your EAD to come? or will they both come around the same time, 3 months?

Any help as always appreciated.

From my experience, EAD took about one to two months less to be approved than AOS - but that also depends on whether your case will be forwarded to a field office (your location) or if it will be handled by CSC or VSC etc.

So yes, in my experience with friends and reading VJ, EAD is usually received a little earlier than the Green Card.

For more info, you might want to check your timeline and compare it to other members' timelines. Good luck

The EAD is intended to be a temporary work-authorization document for the period while your AOS is pending. This was especially useful when AOS used to take years. Now, AOS and EAD take almost the same amount of time to be approved. Normally, the EAD is a bit faster, and the GC will come a month or so later. Sometimes the GC comes first, in which case, the EAD application is irrelevant. The GC gives you the right to work by itself.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thnaks for the info, my fiancee and I uesd a visa company to get our k1 ( I don't think I would have had I found this site before we applied) anyways now the company is trying to put pressure on us to use them for AOS but we can't afford another 600 on top of the 1070 fee's. They are trying to tell us its expensive if we make mistakes etc etc, anyone with experience is AOS that much harder then K1? Like I said I probably would have done it myself had I found VJ before we hired this company. I'm hoping to get EAD within 2 months and then GC after 3, just wondering if its more paper work then K1?

I found the AOS to be much less paperwork than the K-1 process. After all, you don't have to send stuff back and forth between each other to sign and double check. Also, there are a couple more forms (with the EAD and AP especially), but you have been through most of those kind of forms before (I-864 affidavit of support is very similar to I-134, especially in supporting documents).

Remember, everything's in the instructions - there is no way you can make a mistake as long as you stick to the instructions and organize your paperwork correctly. Also, on VJ, there are a lot of detailed guides (specifically for K-1 AOSers as well  beware of old, overhauled info)

Good luck

It's a bit more paperwork than the K-1, but the company is obviously trying to pressure you into using their service. This is a DIY site, so most people here will tell you to do it yourself, and most people here were successful on their own (myself included - didn't find the site until after we applied). If you can read forms and follow instructions, then you can do it by yourself. I think it's a lot like doing your own taxes. Ultimately, you need to decide if you can do it (but most people can).

And, it's not "expensive" if you make mistakes. They will send you a Request for Evidence and you can supply the missing information. If you fail to respond to that properly, then you could be denied, which would be expensive, but if you look over the forms and instructions and ask questions here then that won't happen. There is a AOS from K-1 guide in the "Guide" section. Good luck!

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be back after the wedding in a few weeks once I'm getting my AOS together :)
