Hiya,

I've been reading alot of posts mentioning the I-94 form and how important it is. But what exactly is it? It's purpose? and what do you do with it?

Love hurts

When you live an ocean away

When you change your sleep schedule to catch a few more moments

When you really need to be held and you have to imagine whilst your partner describes it

When you constantly refresh the USCIS website to see if you're getting any closer

Love Loves

When it repays you with the love of your life

When God finally answered your biggest prayer

When you can live life again in the real world but still have that eternal connection

When you wake up for to the beginning of the rest of your life with the person you fought so hard for

When you love somebody that much

You'll do anything

Fiona,

I-94 is a 2-section form that records your arrival in and departure from the USA. It shows that you've been inspected on arrival, that you have been granted permission to be in the USA, the status you have (why you're here), and for how long you've been granted permission to be here.

Ah Yodrak Thanks for clearing that up. Very knowledgable person you are!

And is this I-94 something everybody who travels to the USA is given generally or is this for people who come on a visa other than the VWP?

My memory is awful, I remember forms on my last trip but back then form numbers flew over my head.

Fiona,

I think that only Canadians are not required to fill out an I-94, when they are 'just visiting'. They don't generally have or need a visa, nor are they entering on the VWP. By agreement between the 2 countries we're allowed to visit each other without all the paperwork.

VWP visitors do fill out an I-94, similar if not identical to the 'regular' I-94 except that it's printed on green stock and is designated I-94W.

Yep, the form you'll want will be the white version of the green form, along with your customs form. You'll be given back the bottom part of the I-94 when you enter. They may, or may not staple this in. So be careful not to lose it, since you will need it for your AOS forms later on. :)
