Are you going to yell at us to stay off your lawn now :(

I saw Gran Torino for the first time few months ago - I identified immediately of course. My lips curl when I see the average 16 year old girl's idea of what looks nice in the way of piercings/tattoos and their undisguised avarice.

I have a 16 year old granddaughter so this is first hand. She doesnt fit that description but there are some things...

My fav bit was when he was on the porch and saying all these racist things at his chinese neighbour - in English

She was saying pretty much the same stuff to him in Mandarin

The big difference is that I like the latest machines - so I wouldnt have an M1 Garand rifle - I have an AR-15 and the latest gadgets

I might be stuck in the past with all my stories, but I am at the cutting edge with my techno stuff

Now that I live in the US, I am assured by many that zombies and commies and married homosexuals and half-black clever people are going to attack me at any moment - so I need to be prepared

I've missed Alan's "back in the day" shaggy dog stories. Please do continue. :)

I am busy with the Great Khasi of Kalibar who has moved in next door to you in CA

He insists that he is not Eric the VJ ghost but we know...

When the pm shift starts I will return here (Charles willing)

May everything up your canyon turn green

Righto then. I am nominally busy myself at work myself today. I have a job in an office for the first time since I left London, which means I am actually expected to look busy most of the day, instead of flouncing about in my peignoir and marabou mules, pretending to work, as I have for the past four years.

When I worked for Hawker-Siddeley, I sat with a guy I was replacing for a month - to get up to speed.

10 days into the month we were done. I said "What do we do for the rest of the month".

He said "Well you can do what you like, but I have trained myself to sleep with my eyes open "

With that, he went into standby mode

I did eventually master that skill which came in handy when I got married and she was nattering on 'ad infinitum' about some chick junk or other when we could have been talking about the otto cycle engine versus the rotary
