If you are convicted by a jury of your peers, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Keep telling yourself otherwise if it helps you sleep at night. You should stick to posting about things you have knowledge of, maybe you could post about Alaska unemployment procedures.

If it was feasible to have a jury trial in todays day and age, perhaps this would be a valid argument.

However, most of us can't afford to wait in jail for three to six months for a court date on a misdemeanor charge.

Sit in jail on a misdemeanor? That's not usual, at least not in my experience. We have a turnover of about 2-3 weeks from the time of arrest to trial, unless the defendant or his lawyers file pre-trial motions. I would think that in a larger city, it wouldn't be this fast, but 3-6 months is insane.

Hello is anyone home??? How many cases go to trial? Not many..it's "take the deal".

Seriously are you new to all this?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

This was under consideration in the US in the 1950s... Not just for welfare but for everyone.

Every man/woman/child would get all the beans/rice/milk they could eat for free.

Free=someone else will pay.

How long before the special interest groups spring up yelling 'discrimation?'

You know, the people that don't eat beans. Maybe they will demand corn or other vegetables be included.

And the 'I don't like rice' crowd, they will have their special interest group making demands also. Maybe they will want to have pasta, lasagna or macaroni and cheese on this list.

Oh, oh yeah...and the lactose intolerant and 'I hate milk' crowd will for sure be screaming to have all natural coconut milk, soy milk, rice milk and fruit juice included. And not just plain ole fruit juice, I mean the exotic favors like rasberry lemonade, berry punch, guava mango and passion fruit.

All food markets would be required to keep them in stock for no charge and farmers would be reimbursed by the government.

And you think this coercion and meddling will have zero impact? The concept of "free" when coupled with the mind-bending number of busy-body bureaucrats needed to administer such a beast of a program, do you think this "free" food would only include beans/rice/milk? This would be out-of-control in no time flat.

Hoarding would not occur because hey.. its free... you can always go grab more.

"Hoarding would not occur," Really? It is the "its free and "you can always go grab more" that will cause the "hoarding" you think will not happen to actually occur.Replace those food items of beans/rice/milk with gas. If government paid for the gas of everyone with a car or a truck, would there be no hoarding of gas? Would there be more or less gas on the market? Since there would be no need to conserve (its free!) it, would that not lead to a shortage of gas at some point? Would there not be lines longer than the Golden Gate bridge to get fuel at all stations?

Everyone gets the basic staples for free

Who would define the meaning of basic staple.? Yeap, thats right, some bureaucrat. A basic staple to one person is differt to another person. - if you want something else then pay for it... no food stamps, no "will work for food" signs. Nobody starves, nobody is perceived to be getting "special treatment" because they do not work. So is it better to give a man a fish or to teach him how to fish? What happens when you can not sustain such a beast of a program? What happens when you run out of money to feed such a breast.

You seem to not consider that human nature and the laws of economics will trump the very best attempts at creating any utopia. Ther are always consequences to the laws of economics when you attempt to ignore them.

Yes, a lot of them are dealt with before the trial happens. Does that make you any less guilty? Just because you've seen a few episodes of Law & Order doesn't mean you know anything about the law. I suppose now you'll tell more bullsh!t stories about your arrests, and how you know it all.

Ya it's not like Iv'e been through the system a few dozen times. Throw my brothers and cousins into the mix and I'm sure it's close to triple digits. Seriously save the bs if you don't have a clue, and it's pretty obvious you don't.

I still think you're full of it. My sister is a forensic accountant, does that qualify me to work at KPMG now? Pretty sad to lie and brag about a criminal past on an internet forum.

That's the answer most folks would provide. I hear it daily. "I don't know."

I don't know why they can't take care of themselves either.

Many people just can not get their heads around the concept of letting people be more responsible for themselves. And getting out of the way and let them have their life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

So many people see government as the answer and solution to every issue we have.

So I take it you have been through the system a few times and know the score or not? Grow a pair.

*I* did not suggest it, I said it was a proposal from the 50's. I merely presented the points given at the time - It was debated and it was decided to not move forward with the plan. But to answer your specific points:

#1) Correct.. If I could go up to any gas pump and pump all the gas I wanted at any time for free and so could everyone else nobody would hoard the gas.. Example: How much water are you hoarding right now? Four days without this magic liquid and you die.. Possibly the most important liquid in your life.. Yet you are not hoarding it like the all-valuable liquid it is... As long as the resource is not considered scarce people will not hoard. Seeing a small mountain of rice in every food shop that you can dip your scoop and take home will change its perception. Nothing that is free and plentiful is highly valued.

Gas is a scarce resource.. so it does not fit the model.

#2) Yes free - free for everyone... No it does not have to be a big bureaucratic mess. The reduction in government from programs that could be cancelled would be a minimum of 10 to 1.. So its sort of what you said except exactly the opposite as in it is impossible for you to have been more wrong. They were specifically chosen because of the ease of setup, the fewest people that are unable to tolerate them, and they are extremely cheap staples when done in bulk and can easily have the nutrients added to supply everything a human body needs.

#3) Not utopia - nobody starves in this country today and we are not going to let anyone starve so the plan that costs the least amount overall should be considered. This is a plan that encourages people to work and give the lazy SOBs that won't as little as possible.

The theory is very simple: Provide a minimal standard of living for everyone and anything above that you are on your own. If people were responsible the government could do it by sending *everyone* a check for the minimal amount to live each year.. Say $15,000. The kicker would be that your first $15,000 would be taxed at 100%... Yeah the bulk of us would be paying some extra to make up for those making under 15,000 and if we end up with millions of lazy people willing to live in poverty then we deserve our fate.

Sorry, your arguments were extremely weak. No-doubt you will have a clever come-back.

Prosecutors are IDIOTS. They don't want to go to trial because they are too lazy and too stupid to win, if it wasn't for the judiciary (who are primarily ex-prosecutors themselves) they'd never win. Diversion is latin for haven't got a chance of securing a conviction. What'd they pinch you for?

a few dozen???

We started young. From rolling drunks by hitting them on the back of the head with motorcycle helmuts for beer money, to stealing feeder cattle by the trailer load and selling them at the auction house to cutting down cedar tree's and selling them to local mills for some big money...they used the larger ones for shakes. If you had something we wanted, we didn't ask we just took. Back then in Washington state you had what was called a "farmers license" which allowed you to drive when you were 14 as long as it was work related. That gave us the go ahead to drive to Seattle when we were kids to roll the drunks coming out of "Smokey Joe's pool hall". That was the beginning. Were all older now and settled down.

If you can afford a real lawyer and not some idiot public defender than it's in the bag. But if you get some worthless public defender your screwed whether your innocent or not. Things Iv'e learned in life is to never take the deal, and never talk to the cops.
