Two problems:

--Why cheese? Cheese is actually rather expensive and doesn't really provide any nutrients that aren't found in powdered milk, as far as I am aware.

--The whole imprisoning parents because their children don't go to school is pretty wack.

The law may be the law but that doesn't make it right or even smart. Why waste more than $90,000/year on locking someone up when it does nothing to help society, curb their behavior or improve our situation?

Slim, some people are not qualified to hold a weapon, or show poor judgement and play with guns when they get high or piss drunk. We don't need those idiots out trying to stop crime, that is why we have law enforcement. You know, people qualified to do the job.

I firmly agree. I think it's stupid we lock people up that don't need to be.

It's all about people in the suburbs feeling better about themselves. As long as there's low crime in their neighborhoods, the system is working. What they fail to realize is not only are they not making a dent in crime, but they're actually perpetuating and subsidizing the lifestyle that leads to crime in the first place. Worse still, the criminals breed faster than the suburbanites and given a long enough time frame (probably somewhere in the next 20-30 years) the government will no longer be able to subsidize it and the criminals will be forced to work elsewhere.

What will the suburbanites do then? Can't pay them to "go away" anymore.

It's so we can feel better about ourselves. We're doing what needs to be done to keep ourselves and our communities safe. We have no problem paying for that.

What we fail to realize is we're not paying for a fix to the problem. We're paying for a bandaid to cover it over.

If the system didn't lock peeps up that shouldn't be locked up then they would have to cut jobs and you would see a lot of worthless government employee's who couldn't cut it in the private sector looking for work.

Yes, that's why we have to spend so much money on law enforcement. To support the massive conspiracy that innocent people who just happen to break the law are put in jail all the time. Or it could be that those people in jail are actually guilty, and deserve to be separated from society to atone for their crimes. Criminals always think law enforcement are picking on them. I wonder why.
