*A Texan's Answer to Welfare?

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX

Nov 18, 2010

Put me in charge . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for

Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,

blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want

steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women

Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations.

Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document

all tattoos and piercing's. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol,

smoke or get tats and piercing's, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?

You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your

"home"will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be

inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your

own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or

you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of

trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We

will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo

and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of

the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you

say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider

that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing

absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least

attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system

rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.*

*If you have children who attend government/state schools then they will be

expected to show up every day, homework in hand, and be polite to classmates

and adults. If they do not behave in a responsible, socially acceptable

manner they will be asked to leave. You will need to find another school

that will take them or go to jail. There is no reason other children's

learning should suffer because you have raised a child who disrupts a class

or doesn't do their work. Behavior like that drags everyone else down.*

*AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is

correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will

voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t

welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Who goes to jail: the kid or the parent? Either way that would be a ridiculous law.

The 50 pound bags of rice and beans, and powdered milk is not a bad idea though

Us hard earned dollars at work to help the illegals.

Some crazy sh*t going on with this one. If they agree to bust their azzes, pay taxes and not go on welfare for 20 years, then I don't care.

Not too bad, but I'd stop all handouts. Period. No more free money from the federal government.

We should recoup monies spent on prosecuting and incarcerating criminals. No more free money from the state or federal government.

It's funny really.

The 6th amendment only calls for them to have a defender. Doesn't say they can't be charged for the prosecution or holding them in jail...

The wealthy pay to be incarcerated in nicer jails for misdemeanor offenses here. Why not make that the norm. Criminals cost us far too much money, and they should pay for their own mistakes, not me.

I firmly agree. I think it's stupid we lock people up that don't need to be.

It's all about people in the suburbs feeling better about themselves. As long as there's low crime in their neighborhoods, the system is working. What they fail to realize is not only are they not making a dent in crime, but they're actually perpetuating and subsidizing the lifestyle that leads to crime in the first place. Worse still, the criminals breed faster than the suburbanites and given a long enough time frame (probably somewhere in the next 20-30 years) the government will no longer be able to subsidize it and the criminals will be forced to work elsewhere.

What will the suburbanites do then? Can't pay them to "go away" anymore.

It's so we can feel better about ourselves. We're doing what needs to be done to keep ourselves and our communities safe. We have no problem paying for that.

What we fail to realize is we're not paying for a fix to the problem. We're paying for a bandaid to cover it over.

Maybe you didn't actually read what I posted. I think we should charge criminals for services rendered after their incarceration. I don't want my tax dollars going to pay for the mistakes and incarceration of some criminal. Depending on whose estimates you use, they already cost us 850 billion to 1.7 trillion per year. Lets get that money back, or send the treasonous criminals to a penal colony. Either way, it's time for us real americans to reclaim the country from those who have no respect for it.

So you agree, we should just ship criminals off to penal colony. Great!

Basically the Texan answer is to be a massive arsehole

If by "massive arsehole" you mean "give them a chance to provide for themselves" then yes, that's what he means.

I read what you wrote and my response was not in line with yours. Disagreement doesn't equal not reading. (You keep trying, I'll give you that!)

Since you had problems reading my response, I'll post again - The problem is not that criminals don't pay for their own incarceration. The problem is we incarcerate criminals in the first place. Perhaps if we didn't insist on locking everyone up - even for petty crimes - then we wouldn't have such budgetary concerns.

So you agree, we should just ship criminals off to penal colony. Great!

I don't agree. I'd shoot them.
