Hello!

I'm considering changing my legal name FROM my name, my middle name (my maiden name), my last name (my husband's last name) TO my name, my last name (my husband's last name) in other words, I'm considering giving up my middle name (maiden name) How and when is this possible?

Thank you!

If you have not yet gotten your SS card, that is one opportunity to do it (at no cost that is). After that, your next change opportunity would be when naturalizing (becoming citizen), also at not cost.

You can change names any other time that you wish, but there are some court costs and then changing all other documentation: driver license, bank accounts, etc.

Your EAD is invalid now that you have the GC, so that document is irrelevant. The GC gives you the right to work by itself. So the docs you would need to change is SS card (free) and GC (costs a few hundred dollars for replacement GC). Or, you can wait for ROC and do it then for free.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
