I hope someone is reading out there. I would like to know approximately how long it is taking to receive the packet from Ciudad Juarez for an appointment for a CR-1 visa. Here is our info:

I-130 mailed to US Embassy Mexico City Apr. 15, 2006

Received notice of receipt from Embassy and letter that packet sent to Ciudad Juarez May 11, 2006

Waiting on packet for Visa Appointment ................

Called Embassy : told wait of 3 months

Called 900 number staffed by idiots : Case not in system....little or no help

I understand that we will have to wait an additional 9-12 months once they receive the packet back from for an appointment. But how long will it take to get the packet here in Mexico?

We are both living in Mexico and married in Jan. 2006 (I am US citizen). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Deborah

CDJ appointments for CR1 take about a year from the date the approval I-130 is sent to the consulate. If your file was transferred to CDJ in May, you probably have another 6 months to go. The packet information is all available on the CDJ website and will be sent to you address in the US as well as Mexico.

http://usembassy.state.gov/CiudadJuarez/wwwhivfm.html

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it this early in the game but I assume you'll get it within a month of their sending it.

p.s. best way to get information from CDJ is via email - cdjimmigrantvisas@state.gov

Hello!. well from what i have heard the packet get send to you one month before from your interview date, but it takes around 11 months to get the interview date more or less at Ciudad Juarez once the NVC complete and send the case to the consulate at Ciudad Juarez Mexico.

Hi:

Our paperwork has been sitting in Ciudad Juarez since Jan 23rd of this year. We still have not heard anything from the embassy regarding my husbands interview date. Everytime you contact the embassy they seem to give you a different answer. It started with 6-9 months then changed from 9-11 months for an interview. Well we are now at the 10th month and your suppose to receive your packet a month in advance. Today is the 9th and still nothing. Good luck.

I received one letter from NVC stating that the package was sent to CDJ. Am I supposed to receive a confermation letter that it arrived at CDJ too?

Troy, just email CDJ and ask if they have received the petition. They don't send emails to people unless you've written to them, as far as I know.

Lynn, the dates they put in their emails regarding interview timing are estimates depending on the consulate's current workload which is constantly changing based on applications, that's why the interview timing estimate changes with every email.

I feel your pain and frustration! We're excited about our quick approval from the California Service center but we're dreading dealing with Ciudad Juarez.

I'm looking for an answer too about speeding up the process at Ciudad Juarez! We got our I-130 approval on Wednesday, which was much quicker than we expected. We've already sent off the I-129 F for the K-3 visa but I don't know if we can do this now that the I-130 was approved.

Have you contacted the consulate in writing? Have you written to your U.S. Congressperson? The Nolo press book on Fiancee and Marriage visas recommends this when you've exhausted all other possibilities in regards to contacting the consulate.

I feel for you - but honestly there is nothing you can do to speed things up. The consulate in CDJ processes the largest number of family-based immigration petitions in the world. They are backlogged behind comprehension. Since your I-130 will shortly be on it's way, it would be a waste of money to file the I-129. A congressman or senator can only provide you with official case status - they have no impact on processing times. The only thing they could possibly do is request for the interview to be expedited due to severe medical emergency of the USC or military deployment of the USC and even then, it's pretty much impossible to do. :(

Can things ever be simple?? I had an RFE on my I864 which I didnt get until the 1st of Oct(thanks to snail mail), fixed it and mailed it back the last week in Oct. I called the NVC a couple days ago to check on the RFE and they told me they mailed it to the embassy Sept 13 which was the date of the RFE I believe. Did they actually send it to the embassy then?? How could that be if I just sent back the stupid RFE? I have emailed the embassy but havent gotten a reply. Is this common or maybe its a mistake? Now I feel lost Im not even sure where my paperwork is and if its even been approved.

Becki :star:

And I agree that the wait in CDJ is insane, especially if you have already been married two years!!

Becki - looks like maybe the NVC made a mistake if they did indeed forward to the embassy without the RFE info. I would call them again next week to confirm. If they truly did send it, email CDJ and see if you can send them the correct/missing/RFE information (it will take them several days to respond). When the time comes for the interview, be sure you take the updated/corrected I-864 to avoid any problems.

Would it be a major problem if they did send it the the embassy with out the corrected I864?? Or could I just wait and go to the interview with a correct and updated one? I was planning on bring an updated one to the interview anyway since by the time we will have the interview it will be a new tax year.

I would assume it's not a major problem cause you'll be bringing a new one. But I would still confirm the situation with the NVC and email CDJ (and keep in mind that they are not too bright so don't take what they say as 100% correct).
