Hi! My husband (a USC) filed for AOS for me & his mom. I was checking our case status online and my mom's new status for her I-485 is now "testing & interview" while both her I-130 & I-765 is still under "initial review". Is this normal? I thought there will be no interview for an immediate relative.

Also, my mom's case is processed at National Benefits Center. Does that mean they have to go to MO and not here at the Chicago office? We don't have the letter yet so we dont have an idea where the interview will be held.

What are the documents that needs to be prepared?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Her interview is on 9/26

An interview is protocol. The interview will be at your local office, and the letter will have a list of documents that you need.

Only K1's have the ability to not have an interview (some do, some don't). This is because we were interviewed to GET the K1 visa and appropriately vetted there.

My mom is nervous about this kind of interviews. My husband plans to accompany her but will they allow my husband to join her during the interview?

I'm sorry but I have no experience with this kind of AOS. Hopefully someone will know.

When someone is adjusting status based on an immediate relative petition then they usually want the petitioner there, as well. The interview letter should indicate this.

Tell your mother in-law not to worry. Interviews for parents of a US citizen are usually very easy.

Raise your right hand. Do you swear...

...yes

Have you ever...

...no

Did you ever...

...no

Are you now or have you ever been...

...no

Congratulations. Welcome to America!

Tell your mom not to get too worked up, she will be fine.

Best wishes...

Thanks Leatherneck!

I am now reading the letter for the mom's interview. Some of the required documents has already been mailed like the I-693 and affidavit of support. I will just print-out everything again just to be sure.

You're welcome...just tell mom to relax, she'll do fine. Just follow that letter as instructed. Will you be with her for moral support also?

Hi leatherneck! I don't think the USCIS will let me stay in the lobby if I don't have any business with them but I would love to join her and my husband on the said date.

I am not familiar with the Chicago office and its location, is there any shopping nearby? If so, maybe you can enjoy some shopping while you wait for them. But, her interview will not be terribly intense.

There will be an interview at your local USCIS Office. They will send a letter outlining documents needed, see VJ guides.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
