Passport????

You know how many of us read and study every piece of related information for our situations?

Well, I was reading for what my Chinese fiancee needs before interview. It mentions a Passsport, good for more than 6 months after arrival to usa????

I have not seen that yet. I thought the Visa she would be gettinging to come here is the same as passport? Please advise?

I know when I went to China for the first time, I was only allowed a passport for 6 months from the USA. Will this cause a possible delay in our case if she has NO passport or only a passport for 6 months?...thanks...todd

A visa is a stamp inside the passport it is not a passport.

A passport is required to have the visa and to get into the US embassy, in some places it is also required to pay the fee for the interview because they use the passport number to confirm the fee payment.

To travel internationally you are required to have a passport.

A passport is to be valid for more than 6 months to travel internationally, generally you cannot apply for a passport that is only valid for 6 months. Most are valid 5-10 years.

If she has no passport yes there will be delays because nothing will happen until you get her one. Get a passport. Where else are they going to stamp the visa? her hand?

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Todd your passport is personal identification issued by the country of your citizenship. US passports are good for 10 years as I think are passports from the PRC. A visa is the authorization from the issuing country that allows entry into that country for the specified length of time.

Your Fiancée will need a Chinese passport. The US embassy in Guangzhou will be issuing her a US K-1 visa that will allow her to enter the US. Her ID card is not enough, she will need a passport. I believe that the police department in her town or city should be the passport authority.

Yes it will cause a delay if she has no passport, if she showed up at the document intake at the Consulate without one, she will not be interviewed. As Inky already told you and I'll repeat for emphasis, SHE NEEDS TO OBTAIN A PASSPORT!

PRC passports are valid for 10 years (adults anyway, don't know about minors).

Where else are they going to stamp the visa? her hand?

Good one!!

She needs a valid passport, the visa is just a stamp. You might reread the guides so nothing is missed. If she shows up without a passport or valid one good for more than 6 months, there will be no interview. My suggestion is if you are close to renewal, renew. If no passport apply for one ASAP. Make sure she has all the same documents you have or submitt.

I was only allowed a passport for 6 months from the USA.

It seems you are confusing visas and passports. You weren't given a 6 month passport. As a USC, your first passport will be for 5 years generally and the renewed passport will be good for 10 years. The tourist visa to China is good for 6 months and allows a single 30 day stay. After you have gotten a couple of these you can apply for a 1 year visa with multiple entries for up to 30 days. Once married you can get a 2 year visa with multiple 180 day entries.

For you fiancee. The passport expiration has to be more than 6 months after her interview or they won't issue a visa. No point giving her a visa when her passport may expire before she could complete the trip. If she doesn't have a passport then she needs to get one now. I don't know with the K-1, but for the CR-1 we had to submit a copy of her passport bio page. She can talk to a travel agent near her home to help her get a passport if she doesn't already have it.

When I was issued my passport, it was valid for 10 years and it was my first one. Passports issued to minors for the first time are valid for 5 years and adults automatically get 10 year passports if it's their first one. This is my own experience and someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The tourist visa to China is good for 6 months and allows a single 30 day stay. After you have gotten a couple of these you can apply for a 1 year visa with multiple entries for up to 30 days.

This may vary by Consulate. The first Chinese visa I obtained was valid for a year, allowed a 60 day stay, and was multiple entry. The second Chinese visa I obtained is valid for a year, allows a 30 day stay, and is multiple entry.

As others have said, your fiancee will need a passport. Below is the Letter to K1/K2 Applicants from the Consulate in Guangzhou. Note that the letter says a visa must have a validity of at least 8 months beyond the Visa issuance date, not 6.

K1K2 Appointment-Nov 10.pdf

Your fiancee will still need a Chinese passport when she comes to the United States because she will still be a Chinese citizen, not an American citizen. The passport will be her means of identification until she receives her green card. Even after she gets her green card she will not be able to become a U.S. citizen for 3 years and will still need her Chinese passport. As she will still be a Chinese citizen she will need a Chinese passport to travel outside of the country.

When my wife went back to China two years ago she tried to get her passport renewed while she was visiting. They would not allow her to renew her passport more than 6 months before it expired. She had to get it renewed at the Chinese Consulate in Chicago later that year when we passed through on vacation. It would be easier for her to get the passport while she is still in China anyway. The Chinese passport has a validity of 10 years.
