Alright guys I want to review some stuff that is needed to be done before I go back to Vietnam for my wedding in 4-5 months.

1. First get a Medical/Mental Test from a hospital.

2. Called my stated Vital Record Department for the Affidavit of Single Status Certificate

3. Get the Affidavit of Single Status notarized by the Secretary of State

That is pretty much about it right? Because I'm not planning to file for the K-1 or CR-1 paper just yet. I'm planning to do after the wedding, even though if I apply for the K-1 paper it would be more faster so I heard, but I'm not going to. Therefor to review some stuff that I need to do before heading back for my wedding than those 3 above are the thing that is a must do am I right. Thank for the help you guys rock

I know very little about the process for getting married in Vietnam. I do know that if you get married then you can't file a K1 petition. You'd have to file a CR1. Honestly, there's not very much difference in the processing times now between a K1 and CR1.

Hopefully, someone who has been married in Vietnam recently will come along...

Here's my experience getting married in Vietnam:

My understanding is that getting your mental exam done in US won't matter with So Tu Phap. They will require you to get it (re)done at the HCM mental health hospital (located right off the East West Highway). I also forgo getting my certificate/affidavit of single status in the US and instead got the affidavit directly from US Consulate. Paid $50. Simple and quick. With those two docs in hand, we followed the instructions on the marriage paperwork and submitted it to So Tu Phap. From start to finish, it was about 5 weeks. Thus, if you're going to get married in VN, give yourself 4-6 weeks to complete your marriage certificate.

I got my mental exam done in the US and had no problems and didn't have to re do another one in Vietnam...also, it was my family doctor, so a lot cheaper than going through a specialist

I guess I did my marriage paperwork the stupid way. I went through a service that got me the Single Affidavit and mental test stuff, so I didn't have to go through all the messy paperwork; I paid about $300 for it. That was stupid. I didn't know, but whatever. I am married to my lovely wife and I am a happy man. In this case, money doesn't matter. But the cost was unnecessary. I could have done something to save at least $200.

why did you start a second thread? did you even read the info other members supplied to help your "urgent" wedding in 5 months?

the VJ members will not be attending your wedding so you won't be able to ask questions then. sometimes it's better to fully understand the process so you can apply to your situation than trying to get quick general answers.

because you are missing things. one mistake, depending on the severity, can be very costly, or even can cause stp to reject it altogether forcing you to redo the package and possibly having to come back to the states, or if not, substantially delaying you.

wow....forget that I'm just gonna have the Dich Vu do it for me it only $300 who care. Plus after reading through everything it seem like doing it by my self will take too long, so I'm guessing Dich Vu will be faster. Any way thank for all the help.

damn all I was told by other who have done this before was first to get a Single Status certificated and the rest such as the Mental Test I can do it in Vietnam. Then after I get the Marriage certificate I can bring that back here and have Dich Vu start on the paper work. I didn't realize it was this confusing and complicated. Let me remind you I'm not going to do that by myself I'm going to have Dich Vu do it for me after I get the Marriage Certificated. I don't get it what the hell am I missing all I need is that Single Status certificated RIGHT? and the mental test but I can tell this is just too much for me. I'm so confuse and clueless, so what I'm going to do is have Dich Vu deal with it. Even though $300 is a lot of money but it will be faster then doing it by myself since I can see it very complicated and a lot of work.

-You do the affidavit of single status, get it notarized. see link below from the consulate for a sample.

-Certificate of No-marriage Records - Get it from the County recorder in your county. Then send it to your Secretary of State from your State to get it certified.

-Get norary authentification from the county recorder.

-Then send certificate of no marriage records and notary authentification from the county recorder to your Secretary of State from your State to get it certified. the embassy can only certify state level signatures.

-Notarized copy of your passport

-If divorced or widowed then you need certified divorce decree or certified death certificate.

Send everything to the embassy, they will do the translation into Vietnamese and provide the cover page and stamp it.

if you need to know where to get the certificate of no marriage and the secretary or state info, it's pretty easy to find online, but if you still have trouble, post your county and state that you reside in, I can find the contact info for you.
