To get more information about the K-2 you can read this http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/312029-8-yr-old-step-son-application-to-come-to-us/

It is in the Bringing Family Members to US forum!

I am not sure you can do the interview together, if your son is not coming with you now. After the visa is issued you have 6 months to immigrate. So you need to ask the embassy if your son is joining you later whether they can issue his visa later.

My husband got his visa issued 6 weeks after the interview because we were visiting US in between and if he had the visa in his passport that would have caused troubles. So we sent his passport after our return from US to the embassy and they issued the visa immediately.

A lot of times the embassies will work with you, it never hurts to ask.

Wishing you luck in your journey!

Thanks for that, Sib.

We have all actually decided that it would be best for my son to travel at the same time as me, which makes things a little less awkward. I will read the information you have kindly posted.

Gosh, I have been reading all day...I am still in my P.pj's and it's nearly 6pm here in England. I found some excellent external links explaining the K2 process.

Thank you. I don't know what I would do without this place and the wonderful people to have as a resource?

This immigration malarkey is one steep learning curve, but it is all well worth it. I can't wait for us all to be together and one happy united family.

That was a BRILLIANT link, Sib. Really informative. Thanks! gonna save that one

Hey Sheep,

I proably won't be as informative as other VJ people as I am new in learning about the process, but I have read today that an interview dependent on age is up to the discretion of the consulate you go to. Some don't interview children under 16 and some do. I think you can check on-line with the consulate you will use to find that out. I can't answer the other questions, because I would not want to misinform you.

I hope that was at least a little bit helpful.

Hello Vjs, can anyone here explain to me the process of "follow to join" kids under K-2 visa ? I'm still thinking if I have to bring immediately my 2 kids with me or later. My Fiance listed the names of my kids at the approved petition and also at his Affidavit of Support. I'm about to schedule online our interview as well as go for medical exam ahead the interview date. I will be paying our Visa Fees ($ 1,050) next week for the 3 of us before scheduling online. But then I still have 2nd thought if I should bring my 2 kids immediately with me or they will follow to join. I know this provision under K-1, however, I'm not so sure how this process will go through. Hopefully, I could get answer/s from all good VJs here. Here are my questions:

If my kids will follow to join,

1. Do I have to pay for their visa fees already together with mine?

2. If no, when are they going to pay their visa fees ?

3. If yes, will I have to already bring them with me during my interview at US Embassy?

4. Just in case, I left them for a while, can I go back to the Philippines within 6 months so I could bring them with me? Am I allowed to travel back here, just in case my AOS is not complete yet?

These are the things that make me confuse. My Fiance has a little knowledge also about these stuff. He wants already to bring the kids with me, but, I'm just quite not sure because I know I still have to adjust on the new place and I think it would be good if I would adjust myself first, being the mom and make sure apply for AOS, get familiar with the places and culture, find job and able to get driver's license so I can drive before I finally bring my kids.

Btw, I also hope to hear from members who moved to the US with kids, can you tell me your experiences ? My Fiance love my kids very much, but, I know he works everyday and he might not have so much time get us around. And I'm sure no one of his family members will help us get through as he lives alone and away from his family. I would love hearing some good advices and experiences.

Thank you all for reading this post and hoping to have your kind comments / explanations. God bless !

One of our two sons was a follow to join

Alla and one of the boys came, adjusted status and we went back for the other 10 months later (he was a college student and just started college when Alla came)

to answer speicifically

1. No

2. He pays when he goes for his interview

3. No. At least not in Ukraine, if they are not applying at that time they should not need to go with you

4. You can go back when you have an AP or green card, that depends on how quickly you get married and file for these. Alla had her green card about 4 months after arrival.

"11.Do I have to attend an interview at the American Consulate to get K-2 visa? Generally an interview is required at the American Consulate. Some consulates do not require you to attend if you are below the age of 14. Some consulates require you to attend even if you are not going to move to the U.S. with your K-1 parent immediately, but will follow later.

I think I would have to ask to the peruvian embassy once the interview time comes, but I would like to know too how much time it would take... have anyone found that or been through that? I would like to know to do the planning much easier

An additional question... if once my petition is approved we file one for my kid so we can apply for the AOS together, would it have tome difference than if I apply first and then he does?

Thank you again :D

Hello "happyblessedme", thank you so much for sharing. I'm glad that your kids are now with you. God is good ! Yes, in time everything will be fine especially knowing that God is behind on us. I thought of leaving my kids for a while, but, I'm also bothered with their situation while I'm away. I don't have close family members whom I can trust taking care of my kids welfare. I'm worried I may be thinking of them most of the times. With this, I'm now decided that I will take them with me immediately. Thank you again and God bless you more.

You are welcome. I am done with my visa journey and so with my kids. I am here to help and like i said you have the option to bring the kids with u or have them later here.

I have my mom who took really good care of my kids when i was gone for 3 years but i visited them once a year.

It is better if you will take ur kids with you so u dont have to worry.

Happyblessedme, I am so glad that you answered this post. I have a post elsewhere that has asked similar questions as I am too going out on the K-1 Visa and once married applying for my 16 year old son to come out too.

Me and my fiance' are currently awaiting our NOA2 (3months so far) , so hopefully we won't have too long to wait.

Please may I ask you some questions?

:help:

Do you have to wait until you have AOS before you can apply for children?

Not sure if the process is the same as in the Philippines. But I had my 2 yrs. green card when we filed the I-130 for my kids,.it was my USC husband who was the petitioner not me.

I read that the child can all ready be in the country (USA) while you apply for them this way?

Not sure if i understand ur question right//sorry. The child can be here of course when their visa is granted.

Will my child need examination in his home country (U.K) etc and will I need to return home to be with him for this?

Yes the child will have to go all through the process like medical and interview dependeng on the age unless she is below 5.

You do not have to return home but it depends on the child's age. I went home coz i want my kids to travel safe with me since they are just 12 and 9.

Do you know how long it may take to apply for kids separately?

Mine was 6 months to a year but less than 8 months.

Is applying for kids separately a similar process to K-1? Medicals, police report etc etc.

Yes

Me and my fiance' have briefly discussed this and we figured that we would fly my son out a few months after the process has begun. I am not sure if this is possible.

If your fiance is applying for K1 the child can have K2 and travel with her or follow to join within a year.

I am soooooo glad I have been watching this thread. I am worried about not knowing how things work. I really want to be able to discuss this all with my son.

Any information would be really great.

Thank you so much! :)
