Im going to be accompanying my fiance to his interview on Oct. 20, and am wondering how long I should plan on staying in the Dominican Republic to wait for the visa (assuming we are approved) so that we can both travel back to the States together? Are there any people who have dealt with the Santo Domingo Embassy in the DR who could shed some light on this? Thank you!!!

My then fiance's interview was on March 9. I arrived to the country in the afternoon of the March 8 and we came to the US together on March 18. We picked up the visa at the Santo Domingo Domex office on Monday, March 14. So, it is quite doable to attend the interview with your fiance and then come to the US together. I am glad we came together since he is not bilingual and not used to traveling by plane. We also lost a connection because of delays at the point of entry and I had to make arrangements to find another flight home. So, if you are able, I would recommend you plan on coming to the US together. Yet, do not buy his flight until you have passport with visa (double and triple checked for correctness) in your hands!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

It is true that there is a HUGE difference in the wait time between peoples experiences :( That being said...we had the interview on a wednesday and thursday evening they called us to let us know it was ready for pick up at the DomEx office :)

We waited a little bit to travel to the USA together (due to his work obligations he couldn't leave right after the interview). It was a great experience to be able to travel back to our new home together and to NOT have to say goodbye at the airport!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck :)

We had our interview July 6th and the visa was available for pick-up in Santiago on July 20th.

My fiance flew into Miami on a Friday night. He was in immigration for over 5 hours due to how busy they were. He missed his flight (and the next available flight) and had to spend the night and flew to DC the next morning. I had thought that almost 3 hours was enough time for the layover. I don't think it takes that long most of the time, but be prepared. Make sure he/she has enough money for a hotel etc. The airline gave him a voucher for a good rate offsite and a voucher for food, but he stayed at a hotel at the airport.

my wife received her visa appointment date for 10/8/2015 in dominican republic and all along her and the attorney swore that I would have to attend the interview and come to find out on the appointment letter I received it states very boldly that the petitioner does not have to attend the interview and when she was made aware of this we immediately made plans and agreed that I will meet her in miami. we will save quite a few hundreds of dollars. I will drive to miami from texas, we will use those funds to get a hotel for a few days and drive back to texas which will give her a great chance to observe a lot of site seeing along the way. so we're hoping that if all goes well and the wait time is only 2 weeks that she'll be here by the end of this month or 1st week in november. hope that this helps
