The storm hasn't even hit yet and our county has tornado warnings/watches. The rain and wind is bad also and it's only 20 mph... I can't imagine what it's going to be like early tomorrow.

I've seen the grocery store shelves empty over 2 inches of snow. People go crazy for their milk, eggs and bread when there's a storm in NJ. I'm not sure what that's about. Wine and beer I understand. But eggs?

Nothing here yet. The calm before the storm right now so it's hard to get too excited -- there is barely a breeze right now. Stay safe everyone!

When in a disaster, you gotsta make french toast yo.

Wow Kathryn, that sounds absolutely terrifying.

We have nothing here, we could use the rain but not like they are expecting out East. We have been on the phone with my sister in law in VA off and on today. They are just outside DC, she works at the Pentagon, and her husband is overseas at the moment. She was totally oblivious to the news reports, and yesterday my husband told her to get off her can and get her self organized. Told her to call him back once she had got everything done on the list he gave her. Big Brother speaks.

She rang back late this afternoon, and she had got it all done. She said it was just as well he had told her off and got her moving, the power is off, and the wind is absolutely howling outside. Rain is coming down in buckets. I think she is in for a very long night. We are glad with him away that her roommate is in town for company.

He told her to text in future, and not to make calls she doesn't have to. As clever as she is, she seems a bit silly in some ways.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

It's 3:10 a.m. and I am not asleep. Every tornado warning I go wake up my husband and son to go down to the foyer downstairs. We have a second floor condo so the safest place would be in the foyer closet. It's been a trek up and down all night.

I refuse to sleep at all. If this hits us hard I am not going to be sleeping when it does. If anything happens, I will wake them up.

I have never experienced anything like this. The wind, the rain, the warnings... it's crazy.

I'll take a blizzard over this any day.

We didn't lose power but there's flooding out on the main road outside my development. Some people in surrounding communities lost power and won't have it back until Sept. 4th.

I feel lucky our development is safe.

I noticed the run on eggs as well, our local store was totally out! If you have no power what are you going to do with eggs???

We survived just fine in central NJ. Lots of wind and rain but other than a lot of branches down we were okay. Some large trees down it the neighbourhood but no loss of power so we were very lucky.

Saw some pretty terrible/sad images on TV. Mother nature is one powerful lady!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

thank god its not winter eh. downside is that food spoils easier..at least in winter you can throw it outside and it will keep.

Hope you are staying safe and get your power back soon!

Unfortunately, many are still suffering in our area from Irene.

We have some flooding in our basement and the carpet is still wet but nothing important was damaged.

Lots of down trees in our town and sitting on power lines. Still a few streets today without power.

The flooding though is INSANE int he area that I work in.

This is willowbrook mall, which is about 5 minutes away from here and I go to it all the time. I attached it so you can see it.

I couldn't believe the winds. It was unreal.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Geeze that looks bad :(

My SIL finally got power back today. She is running the dishwasher, and the Hoover, and having a very long hot shower tonight

And I see Katia is on her way toward the States...enough already!

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.
