Hi some time ago I opened a topic asking if having if Hepatitis B affects obtaining a visa, just wanted to give an update in case anyone else is doing research as I was.

I helped my aunt petition for both her parents, today they had their interview and visas were granted. Here is some info about their case:

- Both beneficiaries are over 80 years old.

- One of them has Hepatitis B.

- My aunt had a Joint sponsor who was making 60K yearly with a family of 4. Not related to beneficiaries.

- Petitioner was not present during the interview.

- No questions were asked during interview.

Congratulations to you and your aunt for having her parents approved for their visa. It is good to know that, in this case, they did not discriminate based on the health and age of the beneficiaries.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

Thanks for the update! So they weren't asked about health insurance at all? That is unusual, but great for you guys!

Thank you!

I was very anxious expecting the age and the no insurance to be a problem. To me these looked like red flags for becoming a public charge. Also in the Dominican Republic the petitioning spouse or fiance(e) of an intending immigrant has to be present during interview. My aunt was not able to go with them so I guess they are lenient with other types of visas in that regard.

Another thing I would like to point out is the fact that we had to include 2 sets of original documents for NVC, One for each parent. I had called NVC before sending out documents to verify how to go about sending marriage certs and divorce decrees from parents and petitioner and the operator told me to include the originals with one packet and photocopies with annotations saying originals are in the related case packet nvc#blah blah in the other. We received an RFE and had to resend 2 more sets of originals yikes!

Each beneficiary had 2 affidavits of support in their package. One from petitioner and one from joint sponsor. Affidavits were completed for each as "a principal" immigrant, since I didn't find a way to take into account that they were also sponsoring someone else. This means that the total number of dependents and sponsored immigrants was off by 1. I contacted NVC about this and they were not able to give me a clear answer on how to fill out the form so I took the sure way and completed each affidavit following instructions literally just making sure that the poverty level was met for both intending immigrants.
