Wanted to share my story...

I am a July Filer and production of my EAD card was ordered on Friday. I did request the assistance of our Congressman...

If you find yourself in a situation where you must have your EAD urgently due to a firm job/internship offer or severe financial distress, follow the steps as outlined by this VJ member.

EAD Congressional Expedite

I did, and it worked over the span of 24 hours!! :wow:

Our Congressman was even so gracious as to send me a letter in the mail thanking ME, yes, ME, for reaching out to his office and requesting help...You can be sure that when I become a USC, I will vote Republican :ot2:

Yes, you can. I found out about it on Visa Journey...where else? ;) I don't think you need a job offer, but it certainly helps. If you have a specific situation where your inability to work creates serious financial hardships, then I think it's worth a shot to request it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right! And NO, there is no fee for an expedite.

I followed the steps as per the link another VisaJourney'er created but here it is in my own words...

  1. Find out who your Congressman or Senator is (google your zip code etc.) then call their office and request that they email you a privacy form.
  2. Write a detailed letter as to why you absolutely need Congressional help to expedite your case. In your letter, state your Alien number and receipt number. It is my opinion that the letter should be signed by the USC, or regustered voter.
  3. Fax the privacy form, request letter, and your EAD NOA to your Congressman's office.
  4. Call the office 2-3 hours later and request to speak to the Immigration Liaison Officer (my husband, the USC and registered voter placed that call). Ask if they've received it and if they can assist you in expediting your EAD.
  5. Wait and see what happens...In my case, the immigration liaison officer was very nice and said she would love to help and would call the Benefit Center by the end of the day to request that they order production of my EAD.
  6. Fast forward 12 hours later, I got an email from USCIS informing me production of my EAD/AP combo had been ordered. The status in my account on the USCIS website changed from Initial Review to Card Production.

I know it sounds simplistic, but it really was that easy. I think that if you write a compelling letter and clearly detail and explain the urgency of your situation, they are more to happy to help. Besides, every Congressman/woman, or Senator has an immigration liaison officer on their staff, so we're just asking the elected representative to do their job, really

Good luck everyone! :luv:

That's great news! Thanks for sharing your experience here in VJ, I'll try to check with my husband (a USC) if we can try our luck with the congressman, I am actually worried because I have a final interview with a big manufacturing company on September 1st. I don't want them to turn me down because of my lack of EAD.

Congratulations to you again!

@ Cutie Bear: Definetely try it! I am not the only VJ'er it has worked for...and if the Congressman doesnt work out, go for the Senator. Dont take no for an answer :)

But you will be surprised at how pleasant they will be to you and how willing to help they are. Dont hesitate and go for it. Let us know how it worked out
