This thread is just ridiculous at this point. Jim is right...it's THAT simple.

I am just playing devil’s advocate here.

The terms of the visa is get married or get out of the country. You have signed papers that you intend to get married in the time allowed. But as far as I know it is not a crime to have a change of heart and not get married. And I am sure there are a percentage of people who do have second thoughts

I am fairly sure if you do have a change of heart that immigration would prefer you not get married and leave the country then get married, get permanent residency and then get divorced.

So why would it be a problem to take a very mature look at reality and have plans in place to leave the country if it does not work out. In fact I am a little surprised that immigration does not REQUIRE us to have a return ticket or at least put up a bond to cover the cost to leave as conditions of entry.

My fiancé is preparing to buy his last ticket here upon his visa approval, and we've discovered that a one-way ticket is about $300 more than a two-way ticket, confusingly enough. We were thinking it would be a good idea to just buy a 2-way ticket and not use the return ticket, since it's cheaper. I wondered if the immigration folks at his point-of-entry are going to raise an eyebrow if he enters with a fiancé visa but has a two-way ticket. Will this be an issue?

That won't be a problem at all!I bought a two-way ticket in may just for the same reason you want to do it. One-way tickets were freaking expensive!Nobody told me anything at the port of entre. Actually, there was no way for them to know I had a return ticket.

I purchased a round trip ticket for my fiance (now hubby). It was the difference between paying 1800 round trip or 2300 one way. I made the return trip about 1 year out to get the best rate. His return trip was set on July 4th. I thought that maybe we could use his ticket to go on vacation or something but we never used the same airline. To my surprise, I was able to cancel the return ticket and get a refund. In my view it was worth it to just not show up for the return which was my original thought. The airline may charge a fee but it may save u a few dollars on a honeymoon trip (my second thought) or you may get lucky like I did and get a refund. When I went to my AOS interview in June, I showed her his travel itinerary as evidence and she never questioned the return ticket. She only looked at his entry airline stubs and the date of entry.

I hope that helpsbiggrin.gif

It is not a problem. You can use whichever suits best.

On a separate note, I was able to get a one way British Airways out of Warsaw with stop over in Heathrow for 230 (dollars) plus miles I has. British Airways allows a OW with miles

If you go for a return ticket, maybe an open return up to a year might be a good option, so you don't feel like throwing away $$ and that would be used for a visit after GC and AOS is done

I've purchased several round trip tickets and not used the second leg for one reason or another. He would probably have more difficulty were he to try and use the second leg of the journey without using the first. I really don't think CBP will care one way or the other if he has a return flight.

Yep Yep Yep. Using the first leg of the ticket or first half if it is multiple stops to get to your destination is fine. But if you don't use that first leg or half then the rest of the ticket will be cancelled. Often you can get a cheaper ticket for instance from Tulsa to LAX with a connection in DFW then from DFW to LAX, but you can't buy the TUL ticket and not use the TUL-DFW portion. There is no penalty in not using the return half of the ticket.

As for issues at the POE it won't be a problem. Lots of people do the very same thing and the CBP officers are well aware that the cost of a round trip is often less than a one way so it won't raise any eyebrows in itsself.

Ditto!!! With AirBerlin, we ended up paying only about 350 euros each from Italy!! We were looking at 900+ euros with a round trip ticket.

Even if you can't find a flight to your final destination in the US, you can always fly into NY and from there get an internal flight with one of the US cheapie airlines (Southwest, Jet Blue, etc.)

Good luck!

I read somewhere that buying a two way ticket and not travelling on the return is in 'violation' of airline ticket rules. This made me a bit nervous as of course if its cheaper you are going to buy a return rather than a one way!!! I am planning on doing the same myself but maybe keep quiet and don't mention to the people who are checking you in that you are in fact moving to the US and not planning on returning!

[/quot

I always buy a round trip ticket.

Cheaper that way.

Violation or airlines rules? Will the airline police come and get you?

I fly 200,000 plus miles a year, Platinum Status with delta 5 years running.

What is the worry of a round trip ticket, USCIS does not care.

My wife entered on a K-1 with a round trip ticket, has made 5 trips home in three years.

A K-1 visa does not stipulate that you can not vist your home country, get 2 year green card and you are good to go.

That's the reason RyanAir and EasyJet do same, lower airport fees, which can then be passed to us, and of course, their overhead is way lower...

I'd like to see and fly Ryan to this side of the ocean, as Mike O'Leary once said ...
