I called my local police station in montreal and was told that they no longer provide police background checks. Instead, Identification Canada now issues them. They can be reached at 514.934.2244 in case anyone in Mtl is in need of a report.

Quick question: How long is my police report valid? Is there an expiration date? And what should be included in the report?

I tried to locate the information on the Mtl Embassy website but was unable to locate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to have all my paper work in order before my petition is approved.

MANY thanks, K

I called the Mtl US Embassy and the representative said the policy certificate was valide for a full year. That sounds like a long time. For one, what happens if a person arrested for a crime during that time? ANy thoughts?

they will accept the police certificate for up to one year yes. And if in that year you get arrested for something like DUI, then it is possible that they won't know about it, or that they'll find it during an additional background check. I'm not sure if they do that at the Montreal consulate, but some consulates do.

Plus, they may do an additional check when you cross into the US and activate your visa. And at this point, they could deny you entry and ban you from the US for a few years, or pending a waiver process.

Remember there is full sharing of information between the 2 countries, they have no secrets, and neither do we. Which is why my husband can't enter Canada, because he's got a stupid juvey charge :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
