Hello.

I filed I-751 in late July. Biometrics was scheduled on early September but had an early walk-in biometrics last week.

Since I have chronic eczema on my fingers, my fingerprints didn't come out very well. I apply prescription creams but it just doesn't get better easily. The person who took my fingerprints said I should expect to be called back for a second try.

I've read posts on several forums from people like me who had fingerprints of poor quality, and they all seemed to receive a second biometrics notice in a few days following the first biometrics.

It's been about 10 days since my first biometrics but I haven't heard from uscis, so I called FBI today. They did confirm that my fingerprints were not readable and they would have to be retaken.

1, Is it a good idea to try a walk-in for a second biometrics before receiving a letter about the second biometrics from uscis?

Isn't it kind of strange that they haven' sent me the letter?

2, Sadly, condition of eczema on my fingers hasn't changed much, so I think there is a high possibility of being rejected again and again no matter how many times I try. I explained this to the person who took my first fingerprints. Then she said "After the second try, if fingerprints still don't come out well, they will just let you go. Don't worry. " . Is this true? I've read about people who had to send police clearances of the past 5 years.

If anyone has any information and can share that with me, that would be very helpful. Thanks.

This is kind of OT but have you tried Cetaphil? specifically the one for people with dermatitis and eczema? that stuff works better than any prescription I was given. I just buy it at CVS or Walmart.

Thanks for your advise.

Yes, I've tried Cetaphil:) I've tried almost all the creams at drug stores and none of them helped.

I hope uscis will soon find other ways to run a background check for someone like me:(

They will have to do something for you if your finger prints don't take again. Hope it resolves quickly for you.

I have read that the same have happened to some people. You may be asked to go for a second Biometrics, or what I think is more likely, they'll send you a RFE asking you to get a certificate of good conduct issued by the local law enforcement agency (County Sheriff's Office or Local Police Dept.) from every district you have lived for the last 5 years.

Good luck.

My wife had to go for a second set of fingerprints once. If I recall we were notified pretty quickly that they didn't work and the second try was within a few weeks. I recall they said they'd only try a second time and then not bother after that. Some people just don't have usable fingerprints.

Thanks for the helpful posts:)

Finally, I received a letter for a second biometrics a few days ago!

I guess it depends on person whether they will ask for police certificate or not then...

I heard that even to get a police certificate, you will have to give your fingerprints at the police department.

USCIS couldn't take my broken fingerprints. Now, my fingerprints would look the same at the police department.

I wonder if they can successfully pull out my record and give me the police clearance certificate easily... :(

In my city (St. Paul, Minnesota) they just push a button on the computer and spit out the police record (which will be empty for most people.) I think the reason you have to physically travel to the facility is to prove in person who you are (they see you and compare against your photo ID.)
