Hi to anyone that is willing to give a little information or advice :)

My husband has an interview for his I485 application for his AOS (Permanent Residence or Adjust Status)this coming September 1st. I am trying to make sure everything is ready to go. Here are a few questions:

1. Can I assume that since his Form I-693 medical has been within the year and taken from him at port of entry into the US that I shouldn't need to worry about paying extra money and doing a new one?....It says I only need one unless already submitted but wasn't sure if I should assume papers get lost.

2. The Affidavit of Support form I-864 was already submitted but my job has changed slightly but with the same school district. Should I get a new letter from Human Resources that is more up to date?

3. On the information sheet one of the items in the checklist says: "All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status" (I do not understand what this one means????)

4. At the interview will WE KNOW if and when he will be granted I-131 (Application of travel Document).....we already received his I-765 (for employment). The travel documents are important to both of us because we want to spend Thanksgiving in Jamaica this November.

I just want to know when I'll be able to book our tickets. Could we assume we will get permission to travel and book our flights anyway?

5. What can we expect from the interview.....what types of things happen....hard interview questions?????

Thanks for any help or advice you can give us!!!! :)

First, a gentle reminder: You both need to be in the interview as this is establishing your marriage's bona fides. It is not just HIS interview, it is his and yours.

1. I think it is safe to assume that they have the Form I-693 because they would RFE you before the interview if they didn't have it in their file.

2. It is always good to be prepared. So get an updated letter from HR and make a photocopy of it, in case they ask you to submit it.

3. This just means all the documents/evidences you can bring to prove that your marriage is real since his eligibility for Legal Permanent Residence status is based on your marriage. Don't forget to bring the original of all documents you have submitted. Bring photocopies and original of the documents you will be presenting. Bring pictures and copies of pictures if you haven't submitted them yet.

4. I am not quite sure about this one because I received my AP before the interview. I hope someone can answer this for you.

5. The interview (at least in my case) was pretty easy. The IO mostly looked at the evidences we brought and ask some questions regarding them. She clarified some information and made sure that everything is correct. She asked us about our family and it was basically chitchats. Just be confident and always smile. Good Luck on your journey!

1. Panel physicians in foreign countries do not use the I-693 form for immigration medicals. They use Department of State forms DS-2053, DS-2054, DS-3024, DS-3030, DS-3025, and DS-3026. Your husband should have received a copy of the DS-3025 vaccination record. The rest of the forms, whichever are required, should have been included in the packet he turned in when he arrived in the US.

If you've got the DS-3025 form then take a look at it and see if it's marked "Complete". If not, he'll probably need to see a civil surgeon in the US and get his vaccinations transcribed to an I-693, as well as any additional vaccinations he might require.

2. The Affidavit of Support form I-864 was already submitted but my job has changed slightly but with the same school district. Should I get a new letter from Human Resources that is more up to date?

Yes, that would be a good idea.

3. On the information sheet one of the items in the checklist says: "All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status" (I do not understand what this one means????)

He's applying for adjustment of status based on a bonafide marriage with a US citizen. Bring evidence to support the claim that you have a bonafide marriage.

Advance parole has been included on the EAD card since February, 2011.

Look on his EAD card for the statement "Serves as I-512 Advance Parole".

5. What can we expect from the interview.....what types of things happen....hard interview questions?????

It all depends on how your case looks based on the documents and evidence. If it looks good then the interview should be routine and easy.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

Is that all he needs to leave the country or is the "travel documents" something else that comes?????

When he becomes LPR (approved AOS), EAD and AP become invalid. He should get his GC before you leave for your trip this November. He will need his passport and GC to return to the US.

My Immigration Journey:

K1: June 2010 - December 2010

AOS: April 2011 - June 2011

ROC: April 2013 - August 2013

Naturalization: March 2014 - August 2014

THANKS for all that good information....I have found and checked the form....and feel like a complete idiot that I didn't know to look at that form (it has been just sitting with all the other stuff). The form the doctor filled out for the VACCINATION was for DS-2053 or DS-2054. His old vaccination record starting as a baby was stapled to it and then it was filled out by the doctor, stamped, and signed. The bottom part is what got me, it is marked as, Vaccine History Incomplete. I'm not sure what all shots are not there but the one I know for sure is Hep B....I think some of the other shots have different letters and names from the childhood card. The interview is this coming Thursday first thing in the morning. Do you think I should try and find somewhere he can go to at least start the Hep B series and look at the rest of the vaccination card and paper from the other doctor? OR just go to the interview with an incomplete vaccine record? How big of a deal is this.....will it prolong things months and months? or prevent us from using our advance parole to go back to Jamaica this November?

Again.....thanks for the information :)

I just realized that his vaccine history is incomplete. do you think that will prevent him from getting the GC before November?

Maybe, depends on how slow USCIS is. Wait till the interview and then you'll know for sure where you stand.
