Ok I just read this on CNN and it pertains to the topic.

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- An al Qaeda-linked extremist group warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that he and the West were "doomed," as protesters raged across the Muslim world to demand more of an apology from the pontiff for his remarks about Islam and violence.

The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups that includes al Qaeda in Iraq, issued a statement on a Web forum vowing to continue its holy war against the West. The authenticity of the statement could not be independently verified.

The group said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross" saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (killed by) the sword."

Islam forbids drinking alcohol and requires non-Muslims to pay a head tax to safeguard their lives if conquered by Muslims. They are exempt if they convert to Islam.

In Indian-controlled Kashmir, meanwhile, shops, businesses and schools shut down in response to a strike call by the head of a hard-line Muslim separatist leader to denounce Benedict. For the third day running, people burned tires and shouted "Down with the pope."

Protests also broke out in Iraq, where angry demonstrators burned an effigy of the pope in Basra, and in Indonesia, where more than 100 people rallied in front of the heavily guarded Vatican Embassy in Jakarta, waving banners that said the "Pope is building religion on hatred."........

This is so much F#$*&% bull ######. People make mistakes. The pope has already extened an explination to his words and offerd and appology. And expalined that his words were taken out of contect. It's the ignorant extremist who bring a bad wrap to good Muslims. Look at what happed to the poor nun that was killed by MUSLIM extremists because of the popes words? Im not too fond of this new pope but for crying out loud he has offered an appology. NOW I thought that Islam meant peace and submission to god, and that its against their religion to force the religion on others.....well that totally contradicts this

another rant here...i am so sick and tired of hearing "moderate muslims" saying the extremists are giving islam a bad name. well, you're (moderate muslims) letting them. these were not small protests i was seeing on tv against the pope, but huge crowds, being led in many instances by clerics. they have hijacked your religion, and from what i can see, you're letting them. if you won't stand up for your peaceful, non-violent religion, then your religion will go the way of the dinosaur, because hatefulness and anger will always collapse on itself. i used to believe the "peaceful, non-violent religion" mantra. not anymore. actions speak louder than words. now you gotta show me.

Where is the outrage from the world leaders with this bounty on the Pope's head by the extremist? If the US were to make any threat like that, other nations would have something to say about it. Are they afraid of retaliation / death threats? Where are the muslim religious leaders? Extremist are a well financed gang using religion to justify terror (IMO).

Um I don't know what you mean about my religion. Im Mexican American and Roman Chatholic. Yes I honestly do think that extremist are the ones responsible for the neggetive view that Islam has gotten. I don't think it's fair for all muslims to have to suffer for the actions of others when they dont share the same view points. That would be like saying that all Germans were Nazis. UFFF
